This Ain't No Joke

The Cleveland Browns are a joke (to a lot of football fans).

Tim Couch's career was a joke (to some fans).

However I can assure you that the purchase of this card was not a joke:

1999 Retro Inkredible #TC

This card brings me one step closer to completing the 1999 Upper Deck Retro Inkredible set.  I paid a little more than I would have liked ($7.84 + $2.66 shipping = $10.50), but it felt good to finally cross this card off the list.

Well that's it for today.  I hope all of you are enjoying your Easter Sunday with your loved ones.  Did you know that it's been 62 years since Easter landed on April Fool's Day?  Seriously.  This ain't no joke.

Happy Sunday and sayonara!

  1. That goal by William Karlsson against the Sharks was no joke.

  2. I don't think that Tim Couch's career was a bad joke. I think he played quite well until he kept getting beat up being hit over and over again. It is unfortunate that it happened to our #1 expansion draft pick.

I love the card. Happily I already have one.

  3. Couch was dealt a bad hand being drafted #1 by the expansion Browns. If the Eagles or Bengals took him in the next two picks he could have had a solid career.

  4. zippy - no doubt. beautiful goal. reminiscent of tomas hertz's goal from a few years back, except karlsson did it short handed. happiest my mom has been in years. me...not so much.

angus - since you're the only browns fan i know, i'll update this post for you.

corky - i agree 100%. so much of a qb's success involves the team around him and the coaching staff. kinda wonder how guys like manning or brady would have fared had they started their careers in cleveland.

    1. LOL, you didn't have to. I sure didn't take offense to it.

  5. Even as a Steelers fan, I can't help but have a little sympathy for the Browns. I don't think Couch could have gotten a much worse deal than being shipped as the top pick savior for an unseasoned expansion franchise and a city that had been burned badly by football.

  6. I have no assessment of Tim Couch as a player. He does have a funky signature. Looks like a doodle. Is that a number 2? Congrats on getting closer to your goal.

  7. Congrats on your pickup and getting one step closer to set completion. I spent SO much money on Couch cards between 1999 and 2002 that it makes me shudder to think about. I really should have just kept them instead of dumping them off for pennies on the dollar I paid for them.

In the last couple of years, I've picked up a handful of his cards for s#its and giggles. This post, and Angus's blog have me thinking I should find them out and write up a short blog post.

    1. I bought a few Couch cards on COMC yesterday. I blame you.

  8. Couch's career lead him to the couch

  9. Angus - Lol. I trust your judgement. Plus I just read something about how he's a diehard Browns fan. Couch was definitely a loyal guy.

Mark - Agree 100%. Even without the whole expansion thing... I kinda feel bad for any QB drafted by the Browns. Hopefully Kizer will be able to buck the trend.

    Hackenbush - Yeah... I think that's a 2.

Kin - Nice. I'm sure you got some solid deals on them. Can't imagine his cards are on a lot of fan's hot lists.

Sport Card Collectors - Plenty to choose from in the $5 to $8 range on COMC. Best of luck.

Collecting Cutch - I recently read that he still cheering on the Browns (from that couch)... which is pretty cool. Gotta admire his loyalty to the franchise.
