The Second Most Interesting Pack

Last Monday I asked you if you'd be interested in seeing the contents of the remaining four mystery packs I purchased from the Online Dime Box.  Nobody responded "no" and a few of you were interested... so I grabbed the second most interesting pack.  The one featuring Peter Cushing:

1977 O-Pee-Chee Star Wars #168

Sorry dayf, I snagged the Tarkin.  As most of you know... the 1977 Topps Star Wars set will always have a special place in my collection, but there's room for his sister set too.  Like the Billy Pierce I pulled last week, this card alone paid for the $1 mystery pack.

Let's see if there were any other cards I plan to keep:

Well... it definitely gets an A+ for variety.  There's a little bit of everything packed into this pack and I was able to find a few more cards for my collection:

2016 Pokemon XY Evolutions Reverse Foil #43

Never played Pokemon.  Never will.  But I have a small collection of leftover cards from when I used to sell them to my students.  This card was thrown into that box.

1989 Topps TMNT Stickers #10

Had I been born five years later, I'm pretty sure I would have been a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan.  But it just wasn't meant to be.  Anyways... I'm going to keep this cool looking sticker and maybe one day I'll stumble across an unopened box of this stuff at the flea market and complete the rest of the set.

1991 Pro Set Super Star MusiCards #101

I really like U2The Joshua Tree is one of my favorite albums from the 80's.  Excited to one day read Gavin's writeup on this card.  Until then... this card will be thrown into a box with my other Pro Set MusiCards.

Well that wraps up another Online Dime Box mystery pack.  I'll finish off this post with a two more non-sports cards that I had sitting in my collection along with a famous quote:

Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. -Martin Luther King Jr.

2009 Topps American Heritage #51

2009 Topps American Heritage #123

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day and sayonara!

MLK cards are terrific, especially the 1968 version.

Good Job.

my brother and i were blown away when we saw o-pee-chee star wars cards.
i have that u2 card in my meaningful card mini-collection as they are one of my favorite bands and the one that i have seen live more times than any other. i wish there were a replacements card in the set.
happy mlk day to you as well. i've stood in that spot at the lincoln memorial and looked out over the mall and can only imagine what it would have been like to be able to witness his speech in person. hopefully we can all work towards making his dream a reality.

Happy MLK day!

Outside of the Star Wars card, not much there would've been worth my dimes. My nonsports card interests are mostly pre-1995.

NKOTB, that has to be worth something I’m sure. Haha, actually I am pretty sure they made a crap ton of it. Still, pretty interesting pack.

johnnys trading spot - thanks. i know things are rough right now... but it would be way worse had civil rights leaders like dr. king not been around.

cardboardhogs - thanks. it was nice to work on some lessons and then sort some cards.

john sharp - that 2009 heritage set is pretty cool. if you're into historical figures, i'd recommend checking out the checklist

gcrl - i'd love to pick up a complete set of the 1977 opc star wars, but only if the price is right. that's pretty cool. one day i hope to make it out to the east coast so i can visit the lincoln memorial. in february, i'll teach my civil rights movement unit and we'll listen to part of dr. king's speech. it always gives me goosebumps. so powerful

night owl - maybe they slipped some 70's wacky packages into these mystery packs?

sumomenkoman - i actually bought a box for a friend years ago. she's a huge nkotb fan. don't think i paid more than $5. and even with cards going crazy right now... i'm pretty sure these are still available for that price.

How fitting that you got a U2 card this time of year ,their song Pride (in the name of love) is all about MLK.

sg488 - very cool. thanks for that tidbit of trivia. best thing i learned today.

Yeah the Moff card is an automatic win. The Turtles sticker would be a distant 2nd for me.

Great stuff!

They should've stuck Peter in the middle, it would have made for a much better surprise that way. As is, you see the best card first, and everything else is downhill (and it's a very steep hill!) from there.

jafronius - figure the moff pays for the pack... and the rest is gravy. not sure the rest of the packs will off there same value as the baseball and this one though

matt - hopefully there's great stuff in the remaining three mystery packs

jon - lol. i remember building mystery bags when i sold cards at the flea market and i always put stars on the top to attract customers. maybe if they put them in brown lunch bags or something... it'd be a complete mystery
