Flea Market Finds #59: You Can Keep Your Heritage!

I'm pretty sure that I'm the only remaining cardboard blogger who hasn't busted a single pack of 2014 Topps Heritage.  And you wanna know something?  I'm okay with that.

No I'm not hating on Heritage.  I love the product and if things go as planned, I'll buy at least a blaster box or maybe even a hobby box of the stuff.  The 1965 Topps baseball card design is easily my favorite from the 60's and I've been waiting for this product to arrive for  what seems to be eons.

But this past Sunday, I found a card at the flea market that single handedly curbed my Heritage craving... at least for the time being.

When:  Sunday, March 31st
Where:  Capitol Flea Market
What:  A Card I've Actually Been Looking For
How Much?:  $3

In February, I showed off my Vintage Topps League Leaders Project.  It's a collection of Topps league leader cards that contain only players enshrined at Cooperstown.  Up to this point, I had acquired eight different cards ranging from 1962 to 1968.

However my newest addition is the first card from 1965 Topps set and it's also the first card featuring pitchers.

1965 Topps #8 National League ERA Leaders

I stumbled across it when I saw a guy with ten to fifteen cards thrown on a table.  This particular card has been high on my Cardboard Wish List (which I'll get around to sharing one of these days), so it immediately caught my attention.  The vendor was standing right in front of me, so I tried to play it cool and picked up a few other cards... before I grabbed it.

He wanted $5 for it... which I felt was fair... but after the Benadryl incident I was looking for a bargain.  I threw out a $3 offer and he quickly accepted it.  It actually made me wonder if I could have gone lower.  Oh well... I was totally content with this price.  Heck... I would have given him the full five bucks.

Okay... I'm off to Target to see if they have received any Heritage blasters.

Happy Thursday and sayonara!

Awesome Koufax!
BTW, I haven't bought any Topps Heritage either. Was never much of a fan TBH (although I do like the card stock they print those cards on).

Yup, a neat card. Leader cards were among my favorites as a kid. I loved looking down that list of numbers on the back. Spahn coughed up that 5+ ERA after a great season the year before.

I know. I was admiring it myself... almost a half run better than Drysdale. I wish I would have had the honor of watching him in person.

Yeah... from what I've read... a lot of people agree with us.

The streak continues. No Heritage at Target tonight. I did bust a pack of Calbee (Japanese baseball) a few days ago though. Guess I'm out of your guys' club :(

Definitely! Vintage baseball cards are one of my favorite things to collect.

I enjoy Heritage, but certain years stand out more than others and this year is one of those years.

I hadn't noticed Spahn's number until just now. Wow. Can't believe he made it onto the leader's card. I guess there weren't many pitchers who pitched 162 innings in 1964.

Three bucks? Ye gads, that's awesome. I'd have gone for the fiver as well.

And you're not the only person not to do Heritage yet. I haven't found a pack yet. I'm sure they're somewhere.

I'm starting to think it's a sign. If I don't find one in the next week or so... I'll probably wait until one of the major online shops has a decent sale on a hobby box.

I haven't bought Heritage yet. I'm usually on a one year delay with my pack opening.
