Shiny Happy People!

Are you attracted to shiny objects that glimmer in the sunlight?

Have you ever been called frugal?

Do you happen to collect those enshrined at Cooperstown?

Does your mouth water when you hear the words "free redemption offer"?

Can you use a "pick me up", because your favorite baseball team just got knocked out of the playoffs?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, then there's a minute chance you'll enjoy reading this post.  Why?  Well today, I'm going to show off my newly purchased 2010 Topps Chrome Wrapper Redemption Refractors.

In short... they're shiny, cheap, HOFers who were part of a free redemption two years ago.  And best of all... they just might make you smile when you hold them.

Back in 2010, collectors could send in twenty-four wrappers of 2010 Topps Chrome baseball and receive a special pack containing three of these special cards.  The set actually contains fifteen cards, but since I'm not a big prospect collector, I decided to focus on the five legends in the set:

#222 Babe Ruth

#223 Lou Gehrig

#224 Jackie Robinson

#225 Ty Cobb

#226 Mickey Mantle

I know what you're thinking... "Fuji, these cards are awesome!  There's no way they're cheap."  Well... you couldn't be further from the truth.  Believe it or not, you can add all five of these cards to your collector for less than two gallons of gasoline at ARCO.  Yup... I picked these beauties up off of COMC for less than $6 shipped.

So... what are you waiting for?  Go out and treat yourself to these delightful, shimmering, and highly collectible (not really) cards.

It might just cause you to jump up and dance to REM's Shiny Happy People.

Are you a fan of Shiny, Happy, People?  In other words, are you a "refractor" type of guy/girl?  Any favorites?

Happy Friday and sayonara!

I am a total refractor addict.

I bought 5 packs of '11 Topps Chrome from Target yesterday marked down to $1.59. Two refractors an xfractor. Can't get enough.

I am more a "Rock Lobster" or "Private Idaho" kind of guy.

I really like Chrome - it works best with colorful designs like 2008 Topps and 2010 Topps

I never feel like more of an outsider than when the subject of shiny cards comes up. Shinies leave me cold, and I only collect them when there's no non-shiny alternative (i.e. Bowman Chrome of players I like). Otherwise, I'm one of those guys selling refractors on COMC.

Glad to see I'm not alone. Congratulations on pulling the 3 refractors. Any big names?

I'm down for both of those songs... but overall, I was never a big B-52's fan. However totally thought Kate Pierson was hot.

Agree 100%

That's what makes our hobby awesome! You keep on selling them... and I'll keep buying them ;-)

I love refractors but do get fed up with Topps producing 35 different color versions of the same card.I just counted my Topps Chrome 2012 Shields refractors and I have nine different ones. Madness I tell ye!!!!!

Did you buy from Me, I had the cheapest Ruth & Mantle

Fuji said...

Not sure if they were from you or not. Those were the two most expensive cards. I paid $1.50 for the Ruth and $1.58 for the Mantle. The rest were less than $.75 each.

Yeah... I read your post. I see both sides of the coin. If I had the rainbow, I'd be excited. But I've tried to build one in the past and gave up, because it was too expensive and too time consuming.

Not so much - Pablo Sandoval, Zach Britton, Clayton Richard XFractor.

Must have sold mine before, they were cheaper!

Lol... win some, lose some. At the time they were the cheapest, so I went with it.
