Another Hobby, Another Hiatus?

After waiting two-plus months, my new toy has arrived:

It's been fourteen years since I purchased a new car... and after months of searching and waiting for a reasonable price... I finally ponied up a down payment for my dream car.  Anyways... the car departed Austria (yeah, I know the Supra is pretty much a BMW in disguise) the first week of January, traveled over 6,000 miles, and arrived this week.

1956 Topps #30

I realize most of you are probably more into cards than cars, so I'll try to put this purchase into a perspective you might appreciate.  Adding this car to my garage is right up there with adding the 1956 Topps Jackie Robinson to my collection eleven years ago.  The Robinson is my ultimate dream card... and this 2022 Toyota Supra is my dream car.  I honestly don't picture myself selling either in my lifetime.  They're both that special to me.

As for the blog... I apologize for the lack of posts this week.  Between work and my new hobby there hasn't been a lot of free time.  The bulk of my scheduled posts have already been published and all of my drafts are very, very rough.

However... I do have next week off and when I'm not out cruising around... I do have several care packages to write about from these gents: Corky (Pack War Blog), Elliptical Man (The View from the Third Floor), and Bob (The Best Bubble).  Plus I still have some card show purchases and cards from Xavier that I need to scan and write about.

Hope to get something up this weekend.  Happy Friday and sayonara!

So you're going to hang a baseball card from the rear-view mirror, right?

That is a beauty. Enjoy it!

The car should have a custom wrap of the Jackie Robinson card, then you can enjoy both at once! Nice ride!

Very nice! Congratulations on the purchase!

This is fascinating. It doesn't seem likely that somebody drove it across Russia. But it seems like putting it on a ship to cross the Atlantic would be a lot quicker than a month and a half.

Big congrats like everyone else. That's pretty overwhelming!

Very impressive Dodgers card! Very impressive car too. Your car would be even more impressive if it had a personalized license plate. Something like "BBCARDZ"--oh wait, that's mine. ;)

Congrats. I read the user manual and it said "please drive this card throughout the western USA ASAP." Have fun.

That is an impressive car! Love Toyotas. I am on my third one since 1997. Change the oil and do all the basic maintenance they last forever. Congratulations on the new car! Enjoy!

Thanks you all for the feedback! It's a fun car for sure. Just wish gas wasn't $5.49/gallon right now.

billy kingsley - for sure. i actually bought the model, but honestly have no intention to build it. just found it cheap on amazon and figured it'd be a nice addition to the supra pc

gregory - i've never been the type of guy to have something hang from my rear-view mirror, but maybe. maybe i'll start with one of those tree fresheners ;D

crocodile - i might get a wrap, but only for the front and it'd be clear to protect the paint.

elliptical man - not sure where the hangups were, but it might have been held in port for up to a week... and then had to be transported across the country on a truck. honestly... at this point, i'm just glad it's here

johnnys trading spot - i'm definitely aware of speeding tickets. insurance is already high and i have a clean driving record. but even with a stiffer suspension than i'm used to, the car drives very smoothly. we were on the freeway going the speed of traffic (around 80) and it felt like we were going 50.

bbcardz - i am thinking of a vanity plate, but not 100% sure yet. we'll see.

sg488 - lol. what can i say... i like that song. the other song was gary numan's cars.

matt - if i get a personalized license plate, it'll probably have fuji in it

jongudmund - this was a big reason, but i also just needed to sort stuff out

gcrl - i haven't really tested the handling, but so far... zero complaints

jon - probably won't take it to vegas until this summer. not sure my back is ready for a 9 hour ride in that car. although my dad really does want to check it out.

nick - i'm not really a car guy... and know very little about cars too. i just know i liked the look of this car ;D

steve at 1975baseballcards.com - thanks for sharing that link. i'm a big fan of the 90's supra. if i was rich and had a home with a multicar garage, i'd consider buying a mk4 to park next to my car

runforekelloggs - for the time being, i'm keeping it in the bay area just because of gas prices and b/c it's not really a super comfortable car. don't get me wrong, it's comfortable, but in a sports car way

the snorting bull - went to lunch with a friend today and she gave me a hard time. she's like for that kind of money you should have bought a tesla. my response is i'm a toyota/lexus/honda/acura kind of guy.
