Mascot Madness!

Spring Break rocks!  It always has and always will.  I remember counting the days until Easter when I was a kid and little has changed over the past three decades.

As a kid... it marked a week of spring skiing in Tahoe.  As a college student... it marked a week of road trips and partying.  And as a teacher... it marks a much needed vacation from the classroom.

This year my break is extra special, because it coincides with the return of baseball and it couldn't have arrived at a better time.  I can't speak for other bloggers... but for me the new season breathes new life into my blog with fresh topics and ideas.

And most importantly... it signifies the return of another year of Topps Opening Day and one of my favorite insert sets:

Opening Day Mascots!

This is the sixth year in a row that Topps has produced this set... and the sixth year in a row they've included The Swinging Friar:

However... I'm assuming the executives at Topps weren't impressed with Oakland Athletics' epic collapse last fall, because they decided to leave Stomper off the checklist.  It's kind of a double whammy, because I was really looking forward to seeing him in this year's awesome design.

Oh well... can't complain too much, since I get to sleep in, relax and watch baseball, and hopefully... just maybe get around to sorting some baseball cards.

Happy Opening Day (or day after... depending on who you cheer for) and sayonara!

I do believe that is the rookie card of Clark the Cub - better get that one graded ASAP!

Not before I get him to sign it. I prefer on-card autographed rookie cards ;)

Getting the Pirate Parrot auto from Opening Day last year was one of my favorite purchases of the year.

Lol. Don't worry. I had a crush on Jessica Rabbit and she's a cartoon.

Congratulations. I can't wait for Stomper or The Swinging Friar to sign some cards for this product.
