I Like Them Bigger and Older

On Thursday Joe over at The Shlabotnik Report wrote about his 1981 Topps Home Team cards, which immediately reminded me of the 1980 Topps Superstars set I'm building.  If you enjoy older, oversized oddball issues... then this product might be up your alley.

These cards are approximately 5" x 7" and according to Beckett were distributed through various promotional means.  Each card features a portrait shot with a thin white border and either a light blue or black facsimile autograph.

The backs featured the player's name, team, and position... along with the card number and a huge Topps logo.  From what I've read, there's a white back version too that was printed on heavier card stock.

I purchased four sealed boxes off of eBay for under $20 delivered.  Each box contained 48 cards stacked neatly without any additional packaging.  They sort of remind me of vending boxes, because there weren't any wax packs... just cards.

Unfortunately out of the four boxes, I wasn't able to complete a single set.  I'm missing three cards for my first set and ten cards for my second set.  If anyone else out there is building this set too, let me know your set needs.  I have plenty of extras available for trade.

And while we're on the topic of set building... I just completed two more sets on my ever growing list of baseball sets I'm building:

With so many sports card products out there, finding these in dime boxes or quarter bins is like looking for a needle in a haystack.  Thankfully collectors can turn to Check Out My Cards.  This afternoon I picked up all three of these cards for $2.26.

Now I just need to work on the other twenty-four baseball card sets I'm building.  Well that's it for now.  I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Happy Saturday and sayonara!

I saw your wantlist and I said "Oh, I don't have any doubles from that set", and then another part of my brain said "Oh, come on, you bought those things in packs... there have got to be doubles SOMEWHERE". So, I guess what I'm saying is that whenever I find my doubles, I might be in touch. :-D
