Bo Knows

Some collectors focus on a specific player.  Others focus on a specific team, theme, sets, or everything in between.  The latter would describe me.  I love it all.

Sadly... this sometimes poses a problem.  You see... I tend to focus on two, three, maybe even four PC's at a time.  Pair that with poor memory... and it sometimes leads to certain collections sitting on the back burner for months... sometimes years.

Luckily there are bloggers like Bo (@ Baseball Cards Come to Life) who remembers and knows what I collect.  He sent me a PWE a while back and inside were some cards for two collections I haven't paid much attention to.

The first were two new additions to my Middle Finger PC:

1973 Topps #307

Back in August, sg488 and Bo pointed out this card which depicts Tito Fuentes giving Boots Day the finger.  Here's a closer look:

My eyes are nearly as bad as my memory... so I'll have to trust their judgement.  The other "middle finger" card that Bo suggested was this one featuring The Big Hurt:

1991 Upper Deck #246

I had seen this card a bunch of times over the years, but never noticed Frank's finger.  Not sure what his deal was... but this is the second card in my collection where he's flippin' the bird.  You can see the other one in my original post.

The other collection he targeted was one I started years ago... but hadn't added to it in over three years.  It's collecting cards featured in The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading, and Bubble Gum Book.  In 2021... I had 8 out of the 241 cards pictured in the book.

These two take me up to 10:

1961 Topps #100

1967 Topps #79

The book talks about Haddix being the only pitcher in MLB history to lose a perfect game:

While Morton is one of the three Bubba's highlighted:

Thank you Bo for the care package and for reminding me of two forgotten PC's within my collection.

Happy Tuesday and sayonara!

Four PC's? Pffft. I've got like 50+ :)
That first book page is one of my favorites. "Ossie Chiavarria was the Panamanian Tito Francona." No idea what that really means, but it struck me funny....

A couple of interesting PCs for sure. Nice of Bo to hit you up like that.

Haddix' amazing game is no longer officially considered a perfect game. The group The Baseball Project did a song lamenting that fact. It's a good recap of the game as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrLuZG2Qux0

Always great to get some cards from The Book! I'm slowly chipping away at collecting all 241 too - I should figure out how many I have.

I've done a post every 3 years or so in which I update my progress on cards from the book that are in my collection. But not specifically collecting them.

Glad you enjoy them! It's fun picking out cards for unusual reasons like those.

Something about that ud thomas feels iconic. I don't know why. Something to do with the photo

Glad you filled in some of your holes with these cards!

Who knows how many PCs I collect. You are preaching to the choir with the memory thing. Sadly for me it often means forgetting that I already had a certain card, or sometimes several cards.

Your middle finger collection gives a whole new meaning to the term "card flipping". They are literally "flipping cards".

Until you started talking about it again recently, I had either forgotten, or just didn't fully realize, how many 'middle finger' cards were actually out there.

gca - i have a ton of pc's... but my attention span can only focus on 3 or 4 at a time. :D and i've got no idea what that quote means either. i'll have to open up my copy and use some context clues

the angels in order - just started noticing a few middle fingers pop up on cards and figured why not collect them. as for the book thing... i definitely saw that on a few other blogs

brett alan - thanks for sharing the link. interesting song. perfect or not... still one heck of a game

johnnys trading spot - lol. you might just be the king of collections.

gtt - i'm sure you have more than my "10" lol. i think i'll try and add a few more to my next comc order

night owl - you might have been the inspiration for me collecting cards from the "book". i know it was definitely a fellow blogger

bo - thanks for reminding me of these collections. i'll be targeting some of the "book" cards in my next comc haul

matt - it's a card that has always stood out to me... and that was before i noticed him flipping the camera off

sumomenkoman - i'm super happy too. honestly just being reminded of these pc's is pretty cool

captkirk42 - oh yeah... i've accidentally purchased duplicates a few times. the worst is purchasing cards on sites like comc and not remember why i purchased it.

jon - the crazy thing is there are more out there to collect. crazy that it got past the photo editors (if there are even such a thing)
