Back in September, my buddy, Ben, sold me a box filled with 98 manufactured patches, memorabilia cards, and autographs for $200. There weren't any $100 cards included in the collection, but there were plenty of $10 to $25 cards. And 80% were hall of famers, while the remainder of the group were hall of very good guys and fan favorites. This definitely ranks up there as one of the best bargains I've purchased in recent years.
Today I figured I'd show off the stuff I scanned and immediately entered into my collection.

I'm not sure if you've ever taken a look at this set's checklist, but it's a monster. There were 150 cards with each one featuring six different versions. That's 900 cards!

I've always appreciated the framed silk parallels that Topps produced. They look good and are limited enough to keep collectors interested in them.
Of course Topps would rather produce commemorative patches instead...

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a well designed commemorative patch, but there's just way too much wasted space on this card. Oh well. It's still a new card for my Ichiro collection.

These two Jackie Robinson manufactured relics are on opposite sides of the spectrum. The MVP Award pin relic is 10x nicer than the patch card with gray space surrounding it.

We'll never know if this splinter was from The Big Hurt's bat... or from a 2x4 Topps had laying around... but the bottom line is I like the look of these frame relics.
2015 Topps Triple Threads Relic Combos #TTRC-MSJ
Three first ballot hall of famers on one card. Not too shabby. This one went straight into my Greg Maddux PC.
Whoever originally sold this collection to Ben sure opened up a lot of Triple Threads. I'm not a fan of the sticker autographs, but the relic cards are quite lovely.
As for the rest of the stuff, I'm not sure if I'll go and scan the bulk of it. I might do a summary post and highlight my favorite five or something like that. If not, I'm sure you'll see singles pop up here and there in future posts.

What are your thoughts on manufactured relics produced by Topps? Any favorites?
Although I was pretty tough on the bulk of the manufactured relics in this post, I don't hate them. They have a place in my collection. When done correctly, I'll actually go out of my way to purchase them if they're cheap.

Wow, lots of fun stuff! I always like seeing Rickey cards when you show them off. I don't mind the occasional manurelic as long as it's correctly priced at just a few dollars.
I'm curious to see what else you got so I hope you show off the rest of the box from time to time.
I'm not big on manufactured relics BUT I do love the "fake" relics that Topps puts in Allen & Ginter (think Pegasus relic or Santa Claus relic).
Cool pick ups. I actually like the Topps Stranger Things manufactures patches. They are pretty unique and nostalgic.

That must have been a blast to go through! I do like silk parallels, and some of the manufactured patches are fun (All-Star games, World Series). But I will say that I stopped buying blasters because I didn't want the random manufactured medallion.
Looks like a lot of great stuff in that box! I'm not a fan of manufactured "relics" in general, but they're better than a decoy card and some of them are quite nice.
I love the Fabric of the Game Rickey. OH man, it's seriously a beauty. I think I am going to grab one of those myself. Lots of good stuff you picked up here and not a bad price either! Nice work!
Great deal! Those Triple Threads relics really confuse me sometimes. I don't know if it's the different colors of the letters or what, but it took me a good thirty seconds to try and figure out what it said.
Let's get rid of the whole "game used" memorabilia thing. It has become too much of a headache. Instead, use replica jersey/patches and spend the time (money) making the cards look good.

Sorry to sound negative, I think they are pretty dumb because they don't mean anything, just a means to add one random 'hit' to a blaster that isn't actually an autograph and/or memorabilia card.
The commemorative patches are also super thick cards that can't be stored in a 9-pocket page or a normal top loader - I wouldn't go through the trouble of looking for a top loader for any single one or find the right size magnetic holder.
The one time Topps nearly got me hooked was the 2013 Topps Rookie Card Manufactured Patches - I started trying to pick up some of the notable names [Koufax, Clemente and Trout] on eBay then abandoned the project.
I guess at least one card blogger had the same idea to collect those patches and they look real nice completed.
I despise manu-relics. I never know what to do with the ones I have. Those rookie card patches did, admittedly, grab my attention for a bit in 2013 but I never sought them out -- the one I pulled from a pack (Jim Palmer) is still the only one in my collection.
Some decent stuff in there. I am not too much of a fan of manu relics but they are comparable to player worn jerseys so I am okay with them.
Relic cards fell out of favor with me a long time ago. I still buy Dodgers if I find them for cheap. Some of the medallion cards I think look pretty cool. Like the Topps ones with the World Series rings. Good score though. I would have been stoked with those 2 Jackies.
That is an awesome group of cards. I think I could use most of the cards you showed here in my collection too, which means that purchase probably would have been a great deal for me, too. Nice pickup!
I'm not a fan of manufactured relics either, but some are incredibly well done. I have one featuring the old "sock with a face" logo Boston used in the 50's that I like.
I think the only manirelic cards that ever really caught my attention are the 2016 Topps Team Logo Pins.. must be my love of black & gold cards.
I don't think I'm a fan of anything manufactured, though I have a Strawberry or two in my PC of him. Those Rickey cards you lead off with were awesome looking though (I concentrate more on the photo than anything else going on). That third one is scorching.
I'm not huge on manufactured relics, but there are some beautiful game-used jersey cards in this lot. Because of my love for the old days of Gypsy Queen, I'll have to acknowledge Frank Thomas as my favorite of the group.
Not big on the manu relic thing - but if I get one, I'd still keep it. Thedeal you got is pretty awesome though with all the jersey cards that are great quality.
If the patches look good like the hat logo patches manufactured in 2009 or 2010 (I forget what year it was), then I like them. The manufactured bat barrel cards were awesome. The knobs weren't so much and the leather gloves were terrible. I would love to see some unique batting glove relic manufactured in the future, but have them specific for each team/player so they don't all look generic. As mentioned above, the price has to be right to add it.

First, you ended up with a great group of cards. Great deal for $200. Second, I am hit or miss on the manu patches. There are some years where Topps has done a great job with them, other years that been bad. I like the Henderson's up the top, those were both good manu relics. I think the Silver Sugger and Cy Young manu patches were really good too.

johnnys trading spot - the bad news is that there were about 20, maybe even 25 manufactured relics in the box. the good news is that there were 75 to 80 jersey cards and autographs ;)
brian - i stopped buying blasters too... but it wasn't because of the manufactured relics. it's because i prefer using the money to buy completed sets instead
chris - yeah, i'd have to say they're better than a decoy too. although i have found uses for my decoys over the years (set spacers, custom sketch cards, etc.)
bryan - i thought about chasing all six, but they don't pop up very often. i'll probably settle for this single, but if i find an another affordable copy, i'd grab it.
p-town tom - some of the triple thread sayings can be confusing... and borderline silly. my favorite by far are the nicknames.
base card hero - i'm not ready to get rid of game used yet. i just wish that card companies would document their swatches more carefully and stop using event used crap. i wouldn't even mind if they made them much harder to pull in order to add value to the actual cards
sean - the first time was in his family. it took me less than 10 seconds to realize i wasn't going to pass this collection up
laurens - no need to be sorry. we all have different interests. and i agree it's a bummer that most are too thick to be stored in binder pages... and that 2013 rookie patch set is pretty cool
nick - lol. i'm embarrassed to admit it... but i just remembered i've built two manufactured patch sets. the other one was for the movie "clerks".
sport card collectors - maybe topps will read the comments and cut back on the production of manufactured relics
lee hero - i don't add jackie robinsons to my pc as often as i should. maybe i'll make it a goal of mine to add one jersey or vintage card to my collection each year.
ryan g - usually when i buy stuff from ben, we go back and forth haggling on price. it didn't take long for me to accept the $200 price tag. i probably could have gotten it cheaper, but $200 was already a really good deal
matt - yeah, like baseball cards in general... there are nice ones and poorly made ones.
defgav - those are nice. the only one i think i own is the mark mcgwire. i didn't pull it though. i bought it, because it was signed. probably paid way too much too ;D
peter k steinberg - gotta say, the rickeys were the heart of the purchase. he's my second favorite guy to collect after gwynn
henry blanchette - that thomas might have been the only gypsy queen relic in the purchase. maybe there was one or two more, but i'd have to go back and look
craziejoe - yeah, there are at least six or seven cards that sell in the $25 range. figured those along with a few hof autographs paid for the lot
collecting cutch - totally forgot about the hat logo patches. i did enjoy those as well. don't think there were any of those in this purchase, but i think there was one manufactured bat barrel in there

the snorting bull - the good news about those two rickey manu relics is that even if they're worthless... they'd make excellent paper weights :)
