Yeah... I Enjoy Collecting Them

Hi my name is Fuji and I enjoy collecting memorabilia cards.  There I said it.  I've grown to accept that they've lost their luster over the years with many or most collectors.  But not me.  I'm the guy digging through dollar bins looking for cards containing "so called" game worn swatches.

Today I'll be going over eight more cards I purchased at the Serramonte Mall Sports Card, Toys, and Collectibles Show two weekends agoRemember the dealer who sold me the 10 cards for $8?  Well he's the one who sold me this batch of cards too.

They were sitting in his $3 bin, but he only charged me $20 for the lot.  I've been picking up memorabilia cards long enough to know that this wasn't one of the greatest deals of all-time.  At the same time, I didn't even try to haggle with him over the price.  $2.50 per card seemed fair enough.

My favorites?

2004 Topps Clubhouse Collection #TGW

Terrible COAGreat looking card.  I've been slowly trying to build the Athletics team set from this product.  Now that I have the Gwynn... maybe I'll build the Padres set too.

2002 Finest Jersey #FRJ-GM

This shiny jersey card represents the 70th memorabilia card in my Greg Maddux collection#71 came into my possession only a few minutes later, but I'll share that in my final card show haul post.

That's it for today.  My name is Fuji and I still enjoy collecting memorabilia cards.

Happy Thursday and sayonara!

I love the Clubhouse Collection relics!

Jersey relics are OK, but I love the “other” kind of relics...bases, helmets, shoes, on deck circles, dirt and so on and so on. Too bad they do that sort of thing anymore.

I've never been able to get into memorabilia cards because I'm still shocked that anyone would have thought it a good idea to take a Babe Ruth bat or an iconic Brooklyn Dodgers jersey with Jackie's 42 on the back and throw it into a shredder in order to create chase material for whatever foil pack a card maker wants to sell in a given month.

I'm totally cool with contemporary memorobelia cards like the ones you have in this post where they can more or less create an endless supply of game used stuff just by having a player wear a different jersey or swing a different bat each day. But with the older stuff it just brings a tear to my eye whenever I see one, it feels like the hobby is tearing baseball history apart in order to satisfy short term trends that will probably seem outdated in a few years.

I'm not usually huge on memorabilia designs, but those Clubhouse Collections are cool.

I’m with you here

I definitely like the finest design.

2004 Clubhouse really had a great checklist.

I enjoy the jersey and bat relics (depending on design) and don't care if they're actually game used or whatever. But, I'm with Colbey. The more unusual ones are more fun.
70 Maddux relics! Amazing. I need to count how many I have

I'll agree with the others above in saying that I don't like hearing of vintage items being destroyed for cards, but I still want to buy one of any Cleveland Browns relics that I can.

Clubhouse Collection Gwynn for less than 3 bucks??? I don't even collect him and I would have jumped at that! :-) Nice find.

john miller - we gotta stick together ;)

nachos grande & nick - i'd love to bust a box of clubhouse collection one day.

flywheels - yeah, i enjoy those kinds of relics too. mainly b/c like you pointed out, you don't see them very often anymore

sean, sumomenkoman, and angus - you make a great point. the act of cutting up a babe ruth or lou gehrig jersey seems ridiculous. if it were up to me, i wouldn't do it. however... since someone has already done it, i don't have a problem adding it to my collection.

sumomenkoman - it has a refractor look. but i don't think they made a non-refractor version

the lost collector - they really did. just looking at the a's checklist alone, it ranges from minor stars to hofers.

community gum - i actually shocked myself. can't believe i've accumulated that many over the years.

josh d - thanks. been looking for that card for a long, long time.

Nice OBJ but that Riggins is quite the nice card!

That Riggins card is AMAZING! I also like collecting memorabilia cards, especially of my favorite player Mr. Bo Jackson!

sport card collectors - although i'll always get more excited over baseball... i'm not gonna lie. i got a little giddy when i saw that riggins.

spyda-man - bo is the man. i don't think i have any football relics of him, but i have at least one royals memorabilia card.
