Didn't Think This Day Would Arrive

"It's been a long road, but we're here now." - Floyd Mayweather

I'm not a boxing fan.  Haven't been one in years.  But you don't really need to be a fan to be interested in tonight's Fight of the Century.

Mayweather has perfection on his side and there's a part of me who wants to see him keep it that way.  But a bigger part of me wants to see the underdog reign supreme.  In fact Pacquiao is pretty much the only boxer I've followed in the past decade or so.

Two years ago, I had my buddy pick up this autographed photo at the Tristar show for $25.  At the time it seemed like a steal... but over the years, Manny has slowly become the Bob Feller of boxing and flooded the market with his signature.

Nevertheless... it's still Manny Pacquiao... the only eight-division world champion in the history of boxing.  And if things go the way I'd like them to... he'll be the only guy to beat Floyd Mayweather in a professional bout.

Any boxing fans out there?  Are you watching the fight?  Who are you rooting for?

Happy Saturday and sayonara!

I stopped being a boxing fan in the late 1990s, and even then I was only a casual fan at best. In other words, if someone else was buying the PPV, I'd show up and hang out (and chip in of course). But, I wasn't going to be the one to pull together the party or anything.

And, if I'm rooting for anyone tonight, I kind of lean toward Pacquiao. He seems a little bit humbler.

I still like to watch once in a while as that was a big thing for me and my stepdad.

Mayweather is boring to watch as a fighter, but regardless, he's a wife-beater. Not that it matters--I've seen this play out before because Mayweather goes into his shell, frustrates/tires out the other guy and gets his hits in, then wins an easy decision or lucks out and knocks his opponent out. And besides all THAT he ducked this fight until now, so if he wins he's still great and if he doesn't he can blame age. What a jackass.

Tony - I stopped watching on a regular basis in the early to mid 90's. My friend's parents would always order the Tyson fights, so that was definitely the peak of my boxing fandom. Since then it's gone downhill... although I have watched my fair share of Pacquiao fights from the mid to late 2000's.

Dennis - Yeah... this fight should have taken place 5 years ago.

Barry - Are you kidding me? I'm hoping Pacquiao starts putting the beat down and Mayweather goes in for a midnight snack.

I'm not a boxing fan by any means, but after reading some of the terrible things Mayweather has said (I won't repeat them!) I am hoping Pacquiao knocks him out.
