Chips & Donuts

Eating healthier is one of the most common New Year's resolutions and something I need to improve on.  But my first post of the year centers around cards related to a pair of unhealthy snackschips and donuts.

Before I get to them, I wanted to thank all of you who commented on my post earlier in the week.  I thought I was getting better, but ended up spending most of the week in bed.  Today was the first day that I woke up and wasn't super congested.  Now if I could only kick this cough.

I also owe a huge thank you to my best friend who dropped off chicken noodle soup, orange juice, oranges, miso soup, and other snacks to me this week.  She did it "lockdown" style by leaving it on the porch and texting me from a distance.  Anyone else remember those days?

To return the favor, I woke and took a trip down to Dunkin' Donuts.  They're giving away these little tote bags (and a donut) with the purchase of any beverage.  She really likes stuff like this, while I'm more into stuff like this:

1998-99 EX-Century Dunk'N Go-Nuts #8DG

Back in 1998, I opened a lot of basketball and pulled this insert.

It's just another example of why I enjoy inserts from that era over today's stuff.

Let's move along to the "chips" segment of this post.

Now I've been sitting on a bunch of packages that I was planning on opening over the course of the holiday break.  But "phlegm" happens.

The thing about being congested is that most of the stuff I've been eating barely has any flavor.  Then earlier in the week, I remembered that Ryan a.k.a. SumoMenkoMan sent me a full case of 2025 Calbee Chips.

These are just salty enough to tickle my taste buds.  Plus each bag includes a pack of two baseball cards.  here's what this year's design looks like:

2025 Calbee #63

2025 Calbee #114

So far I've opened seven bags of chips, but this is the only pack of cards.  I'll definitely open up the rest at some point.  The same applies to the eBay purchases and blogger care packages (from Angus, Dennis, and Bob) shown above.

Update:  I just received three PWE's (not shown above) from Kenny, Matt, & Jim.

I did manage to ship out some holiday cards and care packages on Tuesday to the following zip codes:

11572, 16933, 97230, 98665, 35750, 95350, 32720, 05866, 85226, 08540, 48105, 34472, 13601, 03063, 17320-8511, and 96326

I have a few more I need to put together as soon as I'm feeling better.

Thank you Ryan for the tasty chips.  And a special thanks to Kevin over at The Diamond King for motivating me to ship out more care packages this holiday season.

Inspired by Jeremy @ Topps Cards that Never Were, here are today's questions of the day:

What's your favorite chip?

What's your favorite donut?

Happy New Year and sayonara!

Good to hear you're on the mend. I never owned one, but Dunk'n Go Nuts is one of the coolest inserts I am aware of. I wish I had one! I've searched online before, but there are a lot of customs and knocks I'd be scared of.

Sorry it took so long for you to recover that much! Very cool stuff from SMM. Thanks for whatever you sent my way, I'm looking forward to it! In the meantime, drink lots of water and feel better

Getting and being that sick suck, glad you're doing better.
Love those Calbee's!

Geez, it sucks being sick over the holidays. Glad you're well enough to be in a mailing/donut mood!

I respect the heck out of you for quarantining yourself when you are sick. I feel like a number of people I know are going through the same bug. I hope you can get better and back to the normal before school starts. Btw, I think it has been answered before, but what is your favorite kind of potato chips, and bonus question, what is your favorite donut?

Glad to hear you are on the mend. The chips sound good and the KG / Dunk'n card is fantastic. Latest news is he is back with the Timberwolves. Take care of yourself.

john sharp - just wish they didn't chop off his left foot ;)

johnnys trading spot - i appreciate the magic. it totally helped :D

the lost collector - it's a sweet looking card. the other issue is that they brown if exposed to light. kinda sucks, b/c you can't really display it without damaging it.

dennis - this cold was pretty wicked. the good news is i'm starting the new years lighter than i ever was in 2025.

the angels in order - got three more pwe's yesterday. gotta update this post as soon as i'm finished commenting on this post.

crocodile - it was pretty miserable, but i am indeed feeling better. can't wait to start tearing into those calbee packs.

night owl - i only took a piece and gave the rest to my friend. duncan must have their fans, but i like mine a little fluffier.

jeremya1um - my friend's mom can't afford to get sick, so i always keep my distance when i'm sick. it's also easier to completely lock yourself down when you're on a holiday break. i'm thinking i'll be 80% back to normal by monday. there's a good chance, i'll still have this annoying cough. man, this would have been a great opportunity to add my question of the day to my post. maybe i will after i'm done commenting. as for my responses, i'll go with flaming hot funyuns and glazed donuts (from Stan's).

rj sahl - that's good. the timberwolves are the team i'll always associate him with first

poison75 - you're one of the people i'm still working on. looking for other stuff to send you. do you need any 2025 topps holiday or 2025 topps update?

Dunkin should be issuing basketball cards every year.
Got your card yesterday! Thanks! Post is scheduled.
Hope you're feeling better. My kids have been doing spicy ramen to clear their sinuses.

Glad you're starting to feel better. Voting for chips over donuts.

1. The Dunk'N Go-Nuts insert design is fantastic. Never seen it. You're absolutely right about inserts from that era. They're so fun.
2. I'm not a big donut guy, but if you were to put a box of munchkins in front of me, I'd probably take a chocolate glazed. Then a jelly. Then a cinnamon. As for chips, I have no idea. Do companies still make sour cream and onion?
3. Keep feeling better, sir!

And got my envelope from you - thanks!!

As others have mentioned, I’m glad you’re feeling better. I got a “bug” after Thanksgiving. I felt good, but had nasal drip for several days and a cough that lasted 3 weeks.
My favorite donut would be a tie between blueberry cake & jelly filled.
I (mostly) quit eating chips several years ago and eat carrots instead. That said, I do enjoy “sneaking” a few sun chips occasionally.
Happy New Year!

I don't know if they still do it, but when I lived in Ann Arbor for school, Tim Horton's (yes, the old Maple Leaf) was a local donut shop chain and they put out hockey cards for awhile.

Thanks for the cards.

I guess tortilla chips are my favorite.
The bars for donuts. Maple slightly over chocolate. Bear claws are good too.

nick vossbrink - dunkin issuing cards would not be good for me. it's hard to turn down donuts and/or cards. offering free cards with donuts would be very dangerous. thanks for suggesting the spicy ramen. i'm not longer congested, but i'll give it a shot the next time i am.

bo - i definitely eat chips more than donuts, but sometimes i'm craving a sweet glazed or chocolate old fashion. glad your card arrive safe and sound

gregory - never heard of munchkins, but i just looked them up. if i ever go back to dunkin, i'll give them a try. i haven't bought any recently, but i'm pretty sure lays still makes sour cream and onion chips.

kcjays - the cough thing totally sucks. i feel totally better, but still have this dry cough (especially at night). i'm with you on blueberry cake. it's funny, my friend bought donuts for one of her classes and she had two leftover. one of them was the blueberry cake, so i grabbed it. and i'm also a fan of sun chips (especially when i pair it with a sandwich)

stack22 - i've heard of tim hortons and have even seen a blogger or two feature their cards. never been there myself.

elliptical man - glad they arrived. i don't buy tortilla chips very often. the main reason is i'll kill a bag in one or two days... especially if i have salsa. bars and bear claws are excellent picks as well. i love the bear claws that have apple filling.

Sorry you were sick for the holidays. Show us those cards when you get around to opening them. As for my favorite donut and chip? Yes.

jafronius - ryan sent a bunch of japanese packs in the advent calendar portion of his present. i will indeed open and share them in a future post.
