Back on May 25th, 1977... the Minnesota Twins played a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway.
1977 Topps #120
Rod Carew went 5 for 6 with 2 RBI's in the first game and 2 for 5 with another RBI in the second game as the Twins took both games on the road.
That same day, Star Wars: A New Hope came out in theaters. I realize May 25th is three weeks away, but due to a play on words.... Star Wars Day is celebrated on May the 4th.
I'll go ahead and apologize in advance. 95% of you have zero interest in Star Wars... that's why I lured you here with the Carew. My next post will definitely be sports related.
However today, I'm celebrating the media franchise about a galaxy far, far away.
Let's start with the creator himself:
I've mentioned this a few times over the years, but it's worth saying again. 1977 Topps Star Wars was the first product I can remember opening and collecting as a kid. I purchased this card a few years ago off of eBay, but there's a chance I pulled a copy from a pack back forty-eight years ago.
Lego #75301
I usually celebrate May the 4th by building a Lego set. However things have been a little busy and I didn't have time to start the X-Wing Fighter. If I end up completing it today, I'll add a photo of it to this post.
In the meantime, here are some Star Wars cards I have received from fellow bloggers.
2022 Weiss Schwarz Star Wars #S49-054
It's a good thing that I didn't know about this product back in 2022, because I feel like I would have went all in on it. I'm not even a fan of this character, but I love collecting Star Wars cards, Japanese cards, and gaming cards. Combine all three and this is something I could have been obsessed about.
By the way... this was only one piece of Kenny's care package. He hooked me up with a ton of cards from Japan that I'm very excited to share in the near future.
He opened up a case of this product last summer and sent me both insert sets and a complete base set. I didn't have the patience to scan the entire 100 card base set, but John did. If you want to check it out, click here.
Here's the other Star Wars Resistance insert set he sent me:
2019 Topps Star Wars: Resistance Pop Up Set
If you're not familiar with this show, it was a cartoon released by Disney back in 2018 and took place right around the start of the sequel trilogy. I only watched about ten episodes of the first season. If I get around to building that X-Wing, maybe I'll put this on and watch it from the beginning.
Thank you Kenny and John! And May the 4th be with all of you!
Happy Sunday and sayonara!

Fun Fact: Adam Driver worked at the Target Distribution center here in Indy for a bit — the same spot my father in law did for a long time!
I'm a huge Star Wars fan so I enjoy posts like these. I never thought to check what the Yankees did on 5-25-77. Beat Texas 3-2 in Yankee Stadium. Roy White HRed and Willie Randolph went 2-for-3.
Hope yall had a great May the 4th!
Glad you got the package.
Happy Star Wars day, Fuji.
I really enjoyed Star Wars when I was a kid. Somehow, it just faded away for me. I do feel a little duped with Carew, but I used to be a fan of Carew, so it's okay. I actually like to see some the non-baseball stuff that my friends collect. I know I'm going down that rabbit hole, but I do enjoy looking.
I am more and more into Star Wars as the years go on. There is some pretty cool Japanese stuff over here. Thanks for the sharing your latest gifts!
I am really glad I was at the right age to experience Star Wars from the beginning.
Fun cards! I haven't seen Resistance yet, maybe one day. Awesome Japanese card too!
I love that 1977 Topps Star Wars set. Back in 2010 I bought the full Red and Orange series off of Ebay and was intending to complete the whole thing but like an idiot got distracted and never finished it. I think I paid like 15 or 20$ for each complete series back then, I shudder to think what they must cost now and am kicking myself for not buying the others when they were so cheap!
uncle charlie's shoebox - very cool. did they ever cross paths?
bo - i actually looked at every game that day, but settled on carew and the twins
john sharp - i know i did. hope you did too
zippy zappy - thanks kenny. i'm looking forward to showing off the rest of the goodies in a future post
big tone - thanks. hope you enjoyed your 4th as well
michael d - you should try out some of the animated stuff like the clone wars from the 2000's. that was such a great series. it might get you back into star wars
sumomenkoman - if i ever make it over there, star wars memorabilia will be right up there with japanese baseball cards
gcrl - me too. i got to enjoy the toys and cards. shame i didn't hold onto them
jafronius - i still haven't finished it. the problem is it's from the era of the sequels which is my least favorite era of star wars. but i will watch it at some point.
sean - back in 2014, i paid around $150 for all 5 series. it was pricey, but something i had to have for my collection. the following year, i spent another $100 for the five sticker sets. wasn't happy to drop that kind of money at the time, but ten years later... i'm glad i did.
