Blog Trade #35: Baseball Card Breakdown

It's less than 2 weeks into the new year and I've already completed my first blog trade.  At this pace, I should complete forty trades in 2014.  Realistically, I'll be happy with ten to fifteen over the next 12 months.

The fact is... I'm terrible at trading for four simple reasons:

1.  My trade bait is unorganized.
2.  I don't have a lot of free time to reach out to other bloggers and work deals.
3.  I'm lazy.
4.  I get easily distracted and will often forget who I'm trading with.

Thankfully, Gavin over at Baseball Card Breakdown reached out to me after I showed an interest in his 2004 Topps Retired autograph of Dennis Eckersley on one of his posts.

Here's what the card looked like when it arrived at my doorstep...

And here's what it looked like after I freed it from its holder...

I totally have a crush on this card.  Everything about it is amazing... the on-card autograph, the card's simple design, the great action shot, and of course the old school Topps' logo.

In addition to the hall of fame autograph, he also included two of his very cool glow in the dark cards:

Unfortunately... either my camera or the cameraman himself sucks, because I couldn't capture a good shot of the glow in the dark action.  So I guess you'll have to trust me when I say that they're pretty amazing and nice additions to my collection.

And finally... if that weren't enough, he also sent me a few extra cards for my Oakland A's and San Diego Padres collections.  Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Thanks Gavin for the awesome trade.  The Eckersley autograph is pretty sweet... but those two 1 of 1 signatures are just a wee bit sweeter.

Happy Thursday and sayonara!

That Eckersley card is very cool, anything displaying his glorious mane is a great card.

Glad you like the cards! Let's trade again soon.
Lol, this is the second time someone I traded an "uncirculated" card to broke it out of the case. I need to start asking if they want it before I send it! Not only does it cost me more in postage, but heck, I could use the case of other cards.

Great pick-ups.

I am basically the same way when it comes to trades, mostly 1, 2 and 4 and a bit of 3 cause I'm a bit of a PFC (Procrastinator First Class) LOL

That is from the late 1980s (88 or 89) Donruss/Leaf "Baseball Gross Outs". I've got most of the I'm not sure if I have that one got to check to see where I've got all of mine. I have noticed that the set has a ton of parallel variations there are puzzle backs and "stat" backs of the featured "player" on the card. Here is a checklist for the set http://www.nslists.com/basegros.htm I"m not sure if all the back variations are noted or not, it has been a few years since I have checked which version(s) I have.
