A few weeks ago, I turned forty to fifty thousand trading cards into $100. And now I'm turning the money back into cardboard. My first purchase with the $100 is this 1978 Topps Burger King Detroit Tigers set. It's no secret that the Tigers had a nice share of the cardboard prospects in 1978.
Jack Morris, Alan Trammell, and Lou Whitaker were all featured on 1978 Topps quad-player rookie cards:
And thanks to the collaboration of Topps and Burger King, they had individual cards as well:
As of today, none of them have plaques hanging in Cooperstown. But that hasn't kept collectors from paying decent money for these restaurant issue rookie cards.
I entered into a nice little bidding war and in the end... I prevailed. FINAL PRICE = $28 + $3.50 shipping.
So that leaves me with $68.50 from my Craigslist sale. I'll update you with the rest of my purchases in the near future.
Happy Monday and sayonara!

Not only did you get a Trammell rookie but you got a Molitor rookie too, two greats for one!
That, there is all kinds of awesome. Not much in the oddball world can touch late '70s Burger King cards.
Sweeeeeet! This set has long been on my wantlist, but who knows when I'll get around to getting one (unless it falls into my lap)
I didn't know about this set, so cool! Nice pick up and good choice on your first purchase.
Wow, very cool, I had no idea this particular set of BK cards existed. Great post.
Very cool.
i love all things 1978 topps. i picked up all the variations from the bk sets - there are nice goose gossage, al oliver, and jesus alou cards in addition to the tigers' trifecta.
Very nice. I'm not familiar with that set/release from BK. Good to know...
Great, now I want to buy baseball cards AND a Whopper...
Thanks Fuji!
man, I haven't had Burger King in ages.
Trammell = HOF
Whitaker = more borderline but considering he played 2nd, a solid choice.
Morris = NEVER EVER EVER. NO NO NO. HELL NO.
