Flea Market Finds #47: Mass Junk Wax Packs

The whole flea market fascination is slowly losing its lustre.  For the past several years, it's been one of the things I look forward to each and every weekend.  But lately... I'd rather sleep in, watch football, or sleep in and then watch football.

But last Sunday, I forced myself to get out of bed and head out to the Capitol Flea Market.  It was nice to get out, breathe in some fresh air, and grab a little exercise.  Plus I was able to find a few vendors with collectibles.

When:  Sunday, October 20th
Where:  Capitol Flea Market
What:  Lots of Junk Wax & a Bobble Head
How Much?:  $14

Purchase #1:  72 packs of 1992 Baseball Star Buttons  $5

Three things attracted me to these packs:

#1:  I had never seen these before.
#2:  They're oddballs from the 90's.
#3:  They were cheap.

Unfortunately, I didn't pull a single Tony Gwynn from the entire 72 pack lot.  But for $5... I can't complain.  It was fun to sit down in front of the television and rip into these packs.

Purchase #2:  Yoda Bobble Head $2

I'm not going to lie.  Every time I look at this bobble, I see Lord Voldemort instead of Yoda.  But for $2, I couldn't pass it up.

Purchase #3:  277 packs of 1991 Upper Deck Domino's QB Challenge $7

That's not a typo.  I found a guy selling a box full of these packs at a quarter a piece.  I originally was going to buy 20 packs, but then he told me he'd sell the whole box for $10.  I countered with $7 and he accepted.

If you're not familiar with this set, it's actually pretty nice and was the first football set Upper Deck ever produced.

Oh and before I forget, I was fortunate enough to stumble across these again:

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you might want to skim through this post.  In short, I came across these two autographed balls (Wally Joyner and Dave Dravecky) that a lady was selling for $150 each a couple of months ago.

It's no surprise that she hasn't sold them.  In fact, the price has gone up the past two months.  She now wants $200 for the Dravecky.  Joyner fans can rejoice in knowing that she has kept the $150 price tag for that ball.

Happy Friday and sayonara!

Is that lady's booth near a booth selling incense or something? She really must be on some kind of drug to not only think those are worth that price, but to actually increase the price on an auto you can snag on eBay for a fiver.

You could probably get Dave Dravecky to come to your house for $200. WelI exaggerate.

I used to have those baseball pins - had Gwynn and pretty much everybody else. I liked them, almost better than cards. I got a Neca HULK bobble head a few weeks ago for 10 cents.

You should wear a pin every day.

Wally Joyner is doing a signing in two weeks and it'll cost you one-fifth of her asking price to get a ball signed AND meet him in person.

That's a lot of freakin' packs.

That lady is cray cray.

In fairness she does have an ultra rare donruss card signed..

She's pure 100% entertainment. The last time she yelled at me. This time she didn't... but she did tell a guy to stop putting his fingerprints on a picture frame she had.

I'd love to ask her how she came up with that price... but I don't want to upset her.

Lol... very true.

Hulk bobble for 10¢? Awesome!

I'd pay $30 to meet Wally if it included an official ball and an autograph. But that's about as high as I'd pay.

I busted those 72 packs of pins in less than 10 minutes. I'm still bummed that I didn't pull a Gwynn :(

Fuji said...

No joke. I'm pretty sure she isn't all there. That's why I'm pretty nice to her.

Fuji said...

You saw that too? Possible 1/1. I mean... how many people had him sign his 90D card?

Did you get a Dave Henderson or Matt Williams? Apparently all of those pins (and most of the pins from previous years) must be sitting in flea markets across the country. On eBay, they're always listed for $25+ a box (not that they ever sell).

You always take the right road because you always stumble upon great things!
The Yoda alone was great but adding all those oddballs and autographed balls make it even better.

Fuji said...

Yeah... I was pretty excited to find the Yoda. But I didn't end up buying those two baseballs. The lady is insane and wants mucho dinero for the pair.

Yes, that yoda is freaky. I don't think I could get myself to splurge on baseball buttons, but that's why I'm a fan of your blog!

Yeah... it shows you guys how addicted I am to oddball junk wax.
