Domo Arigato: Jack & The Chop Keeper

Let's take a break from the contest for a 24 hour period, so I can say "thank you" to two fellow collectors who have generously sent me some items to add to my collection.

As many of you know, I've been actively trying to collect all of the Donruss/Leaf puzzles from the 80's & 90's. And a few weeks ago, a fellow Donruss puzzle collector helped me out by trading me four of the puzzles I needed. A few days later he informed me that he had one more puzzle that I needed.

He didn't ask for anything in return... he just sent this:

It's the 1991 Donruss Willie Stargell puzzle. Thanks again Jack for helping me out with this project. It's my turn to return the favor, so stay tuned.

The other person I need to thank is The Chop Keeper @ The Card Chop. At the end of May, he busted some packs of Topps Archives and posted his results. I left the comment "Love the Vida!" and a few weeks later I received an email asking me where he should send the card.

Thank you Mr. Chop Keeper. I can't wait to acquire the 1976 Topps Vida Blue and pair the two up.

Thanks again Jack and The Chop Keeper! Your generosity is much appreciated.

Have a happy Tuesday and sayonara!

The color on the Vida Blue is amazing, and quite appropriately so.

Sweet puzzle! Are you going to glue it together and display it?

Wow, that Vida Blue card is nice indeed. My school, the University of Houston, came this close to landing him as a quarterback. I remember his days as a high school star qb.

That's a whole lotta Oakland gold!

I've gotten a few of those puzzle pieces lately in some cheap wax packs, glad to see what it looks like without trying to put them all together. I'm still trying to get the Opening Day puzzle cards from a couple years ago, I can't imagine trying to go back 10 years for pieces. Though the Stargell does look sweet when assembled!!

And I must say there is nothing special about the Vida Blue... until you blow it up for a closer look! The composition of that photo is awesome. There is nothing going on in the background to detract from the perfect pose he is caught in, and the colors just pop, especially since Topps has done an excellent job of continuing the colors into the borders of the card. Wish they would do that today. I think team colored borders would add that extra flair that would bring a little excitement back to the flagship.

Yeah... I'm a fan of all of the Perez puzzle art. One of these days I'll post the binder I've created to display all of these pieces of work. They might not have much monetary value, but they're flippin' awesome!

That card is a work of art... if they made a poster of it, I'd buy it and frame it.

I have all of my puzzles in a binder with a comic backing board holding them in place (no glue). I'll make sure to show them off as soon as I acquire the remaining two puzzles... and finish off the Mantle.

I didn't even realize he played football. But I have to agree... I love this card!

Heck yeah!

The best thing about these puzzles is the fact that they're practically worthless. On any given day, you can find these on eBay at very affordable prices.

I'll be giving away a few of my extra puzzles in this contest for those who don't want to pay for them.

And yeah... that Vida is a thing of beauty.
