During the school year, I spend anywhere from 35 to 40 hours a week in my classroom. In a sense... it's my second home. So it shouldn't be a surprise that my workspace is littered with memorabilia and collectibles I've accumulated over the years.
Some of the items were personal items from my 90's collecting days... but the majority of the stuff you see were gifts from students and families over the years.
Middle school students see my toy collection and feel the need to add their unwanted toys to the stockpile. The perfect example is my Star Wars display. It started with two figures: Darth Maul & Obi-wan Kenobi. Now I have over ten figures, including a couple of bobbleheads & miniature figurines.
And then there's my sports memorabilia. One of the ways I build a connection with my students is by talking "sports". So they are well aware of my love for the A's, Padres, Sharks, Warriors, Packers, and Seahawks... which means every Christmas & birthday, I get a fare share of sports stuff: signs, posters, figures, diecast cars, plush toys, and apparel.
What about you...
Do you bring the hobby into your workplace?
Happy Hump Day... and sayonara!

35 to 40 hours? Lol you're lucky! My minimum during student teaching was 45 a week...and that's when we didn't have two hour staff meetings after school lol.
It's hard to incorporate baseball cards into dog training. The dogs just don't understand :^\
my son got me a nice plaque with 4 or 5 stan musial post career cards that I hvae on my desk
I don't like to feel that I live at work, so at the moment, there is absolutely nothing personal in my office, no photos, no cards, no bobbleheads, no posters. I've pondered bringing something in, but then I always think that I'll just have to move it if I change cubes or offices (which I've done at least 4 times in the last 6 years) and that it can be a real pain. If it's just work stuff, it all gets shoved into a single box and I'm done.
Yes. I have a Steelers Helmet on my desk and a Red Sox logo on my wall. A few years ago I got a bunch of baseball magnets and the first thing I do in the morning is stick them up on the side of my file cabinet in the order they are in the standings. My desk became the central point for baseball talk after that.
I do, but it's all in my head. I work in a shared space since we're here 24/7, 365.
Love the display... especially the one with the nighttime view of Citizen's. VERY cool! Thanks for sharing.
Well... that's 35 to 40 hours in my classroom. I'm up at the office, in staff meetings, IEP meetings, 504 meetings, SST meetings, running chess club, eating in the staff lounge, running copies in the copy room, doing yard duty, and a bunch of other stuff outside of my room during the day too. LOL... ah... the life of a teacher ;-)
Lol... yeah, I could see where that'd be an issue ;-)
That's really cool. I could see how that would mean a lot to you.
Cards are the one part of the hobby, I don't really have on display. I mean, I have a few up on my storage door... but I think since I give them away... the kids don't really bother to give me any. Instead, I get their unwanted toys.
LOL... I changed rooms 2 years ago.. and spent several hours taking all of this stuff down and putting it back up. I sure hope I don't have to move for a few years.
Hmmm... a football helmet? I definitely need to add a Seahawks and/or a Packers helmet to the collection.
The biggest reason I have this stuff on display is because it's a conversation piece... sometimes it backfires though when my teacher buddies call me the 40 year old virgin (b/c some of the figures are still in their packages)... LOL.
Can't imagine what you do 24/7, 365 days a year ;-)
Last year, one of the PE teachers used my classroom during my prep period... and I was worried stuff would get ripped off. Thankfully, she kept tabs on the kids and (I'm pretty sure) nothing came up missing.
I used to have a ton of SW toys on my desk, but I have been bouncing cube to cube lately, so I pretty much packed it all up and brought it home. Too much work packing and unpacking.
I don't blame you. If I was bouncing from classroom to classroom, I'd box these guys up.
On my desk at work I have:
- A Robinson Cano signed ball
- A Mariano Rivera McFarlane
- A box of "Ochocinco's" cereal
- A Dale Earnhardt Sr die cast
- A picture of me and Nastia Luiken
LOL... love the box of Ochocinco's Cereal. Between that and your photo with Luiken, you have a few serious conversation starters. Thanks for sharing.
