Low Battery Mode

Life is crazy right now for me.  It feels like I'm running with the bulls... and it's only a matter of time before I finally get to exhale a sigh of relief or metaphorically get impaled by the horns.  In the heat of all this madness, you'd think that I'd be turning to our hobby as a distraction.  But that just hasn't been the case.

I have stacks and stacks of cards all over the place waiting to be sorted and potentially scanned.  Some are part of the collection I purchased from my buddy, while others are eBay and card show purchases.

There wasn't a day this week that I didn't think about those stacks when I came home from work.  And there wasn't a day this week where I did anything about it.

I was too exhausted.  I'm still too exhausted.  Right now I'm running on low battery mode and scanning cards on a post to post basis.

Today's post covers some highlights from this week in sports... as it pertains to me and my collection.  I thought I'd kick things off with a card I spent over twenty minutes looking for...

2013 Topps Chrome Refractor #210

The Cole Train is rollingNext stop is The Bronx.  It'll be interesting to see if the Yankees can finally derail Mr. Cole who hasn't lost a game in over four months.

Back in the Summer of 2018, I purchased a big box of inserts and rookie cards at the flea market for $25.  Inside were tons of 2013 Topps Chrome refractors and this card was one of them.

Over in National League news, this dude is having a worse week than me...

2019 Topps Chrome Autographs #RA-JN

Homie got hammered, tasered, and kicked in the face... all in one eveningDrink responsibly peeps.

On a more positive note, according to the Washington Post, Kurt Suzuki has been cleared to play and if things go as planned should have started this afternoon's game.  Here's a partial rainbow I attempted to build a few years ago:

2013 Topps Walmart Blue #208
2013 Topps Gold #208
2013 Topps Target Red #208

2013 Topps Blue Slate #208
2013 Topps Emerald Foil #208

2013 Topps TRU Purple #208
2013 Topps Camo #208
2013 Topps Mini #208

I'm still missing a few different colors, but I'm not usually the kind of collector that chases rainbows.  If I stumble across affordable copies of the cards I need, I'll grab them.  If not... it's not the end of the world.

In hockey news...

2011-12 SP Authentic Sign of the Times #SOT-PM

My beloved San Jose Sharks are playing how I feel... terrible.  But Patty is back and the world is a better place for it.  Well... at least my world is.  Now all I need is the Sharks to go out and sign Devin Setoguchi too.

And wrapping up today's post is this LaDainian Tomlinson autograph:

2001 Fleer Ultra College Greats Preview Autographs #NNO

I picked up this autograph over the summer on COMC in honor of my niece who currently attends TCU.  She's visiting the Bay Area this weekend on school business, but has cleared some time in her busy schedule to hang out with me and her cousin.

This Tomlinson pairs well with another TCU alumni signature sitting in my collection:

2001 Fleer Ultra College Greats Preview Autographs #NNO

Tomlinson and Lilly aren't only two of the most famous TCU alumni, they're also members of both the Pro Football and College Football Hall of FameGo Horned Frogs!

Well that's it for today.  Between hanging out with my niece and nephew and helping out a buddy... I'm hoping to find some time to recharge my batteries this weekend and possibly sit down and sort some stacks of cards.  Regardless of whether or not this happens... I'll definitely be listening to the ALCS and NLCS gamesGo Astros and Nationals!

What about you?

Any interesting plans for this weekend?  Anything hobby related?

Enjoy your weekend and happy Saturday and sayonara!

Just got home from 8 days away in Baltimore/DC, and after a 7-hour drive home today and dozens of miles walked (and run!) on the trip overall I'm hoping for a lazy Sunday!

Just got back from traveling, going to take it easy for a couple days before I have to travel (not a fun trip, unfortunately) one more time.

I'm skipping the LCS. Will maybe pick it up again at WS time.

I'm on partial battery mode myself and trying to get caught up on blog reading.

Plans for the weekend included going to the UH-Cincy game today (booo) and hitting the one-off, out in the boonies Sunday card show tomorrow. I missed the last couple of hotel shows so I'm anxious to attend this one.

Great LT auto! And for me, once you start a rainbow, you have to finish it. My hobby OCD.

johnnys trading spot - i've set aside 3 hours to sort today. it will barely make a dent, but it's a start. i've also set aside 3 hours to do nothing except relax. gotta have some balance ;)

shoeboxlegends - lazy sunday sounds like amazing sunday! hope you had fun on your 8 day trip.

night owl - safe travels. i'm sure you'll read about the the lcs stuff on other peoples' blogs

commishbob - at first when i saw uh, i thought you meant university of hawaii. have fun at the card show today! hope you find some nice treasures for your collection

greg zakwin - thanks. i was waiting patiently for this card to drop into a reasonable price range for quite some time

sumomenkoman - at least we have the card show to look forward to ;)

sport card collectors - i'd like to finish it, but i'm just not gonna pay top dollar for the ones i still need (which are the low numbered cards)

the snorting bull - even though i want the nats to win, i hope the cardinals bounce back to make things interesting.

I hear you with regards to needing to recharge. This past Friday was our one day off during the fall semester (other than Thanksgiving) and it came at the perfect time because I was beat. I spent most of my time "off" doing yard work - and while I don't enjoy yard work I do like how the place looks when I'm done. Get some rest, we'll be waiting for you whenever you are recharged :)
