Dream Fulfilled

Babe Ruth was the all-time home run king the year I was born.  Damn.  Just seeing those words being typed out makes me feel old.  Anyways Hank Aaron came along two years later and ended Ruth's reign.  My entire childhood, I held Hammerin' Hank in high regard.  He was a baseball legend.  Not just a hall of famer.  A legend.  One of the greatest to play the game.

I remember hearing stories about how he had faced racism during his entire career...  but especially when he started encroaching on Ruth's hallowed home run record.

Racial slurs.  Hate mail.  Death threats.  He overcame all of these things which only added to my admiration and his legacy.

It's always been a dream of mine to own a certified, packed pull autograph of Mr. Aaron.  Thankfully, Topps has had him sign a lot of cards the past five years or so, which has made them much more affordable.

Last month, I stumbled across this card on eBay:

2015 Topps Museum Collection Premium Prints #PP-HA (#'d 25/25)

Cutbacks have kept me for clicking on cards like this one.  However my eyes were drawn to the bold silver signature on the black background.  And I really liked the black and white image of Hank swinging away.

I started weighing the pro's and con's of such a big purchase and decided to put it in the seller's hands.  I shot the seller a $125 (free shipping) offer that I felt was both fair and something I could live with financially.

If he accepted, Merry Christmas to me.  If not, it wasn't meant to be.

Well... Merry Christmas to me.  Dream fulfilled.

Stay tuned, because Hank wasn't alone.  There was another.

Happy Tuesday and sayonara!

Very cool! The silver-on-black really makes the signature pop.

I really like the black slate background with silver ink, they go together so well.

Thanks guys! It feels good to cross this one off the list.

Laurens - Best of luck. If you don't need a MLB logo, there's a Kellogg's autograph of him that sells for under $40.

Matt Prigge - Congratulations! By the way... just noticed you have a blog. Just followed and look forward to reading future posts.

defgav - Good news is there are plenty of options out there. Best of luck!

Wow, that is one crisp looking card. I'm surprised how clean Hank's signature is at his age.

That is sweet. 2015 Museum is one of the best high end designs ever. And that black & silver Aaron is really elegant.

Adam K - That's quite a pull. I didn't even realize that Topps had pack inserted autographs in 1994 Archives. Very cool.

Julie - thanks!
