Rest assured... I won't be watching it... but after strolling across a video on ESPN earlier today, I was reminded that this is the 15th Anniversary of the dunk contest that ended all other dunk contests.
In fact... it was fifteen years ago... to the day when Vince Carter set the bar so high it crushed the souls of all future NBA dunk contest participants.
If you don't believe me, see for yourself:

Is that video clip too long for you? Then let's go straight to my personal favorite:
Insane, right? And for those who prefer dunks in actual game situations... then feast your eyes on epic Olympic Vinsanity:
Fifteen years later, I couldn't tell you whether or not if VC is still in the league. But one thing is for certain... he's the greatest dunker I've ever witnessed and it's not even close.
Who's got your vote?
Who do you think is the best dunker of all-time?
Happy Thursday and sayonara!

Dr J, Gus Johnson, maybe Dominique Wilkins. I've never seen Vince Carter.
Dwight Howard perhaps!

Vince Carter is indeed still in the league, in his first season with the Memphis Grizzlies. He's not as explosive as he was back then, and he hasn't been a starter for about 5 years, but he was in the running for 6th Man of the Year last year with the Dallas Mavericks.
I gotta go with Dr. J at the top followed by Wilkins, MJ and Carter in a tie but Spud Webb will always have a place in my heart as one of the best.
It is hard to beat prime years Vinsanity. He might be my favorite.
That was such a fun time. The pain point in this city is what might have happened had McGrady not decided he needed to have his own team. Had he and Vince stuck together in Toronto, there's no telling what they might have done.
I wasn't following basket ball any more in 2000, so I'd have to go with Spudd Webb, Wilkins and Kemp (and it's not very nice to put that Vince dunk off the French Olympic team !)
I enjoyed watching Dominique face off against Jordan back in the day. The Human Highlight Film was fun to watch.
Good to know. By the time his game developed... I had already lost interest in the NBA. I'll try to look up some of his dunks on YT.
VC is still playing after all these years? Good for him. Hope he's doing well.
Spud is one of my favorites... 100% based on him overcoming the height issue. Wish I had the opportunity to see more of Dr. J as a kid.
100% agree. It's hard to beat the combination of athleticism and creativity.
I know. Can you imagine being able to be the co-superstars with your own flesh and blood? Shame things didn't work out the way most had hoped.
Yeah... glad you mentioned Kemp. That guy was a beast!
