Flashback Friday #4: Finley's Heroes LP

I hadn't purchased an LP Vinyl Record in over 15 years. Heck... it's been over 10 years since I owned my last turntable.

Then... last weekend a buddy and I headed over to Streetlight Records to kill some time. They have a huge variety of new and used CD's, DVD's, VHS movies, and LP's. Most of their stuff is sort of pricey... so I usually find what I want there, then head over to Amazon to buy it.

However... I found this on my latest outing:

It's an LP called Finley's Heroes that celebrates the Oakland A's 1972 championship season. I've seen them before at the flea market and have considered picking one up... but the records always have scratches or the cover is in bad condition.

This copy was brand new... still in the plastic wrapper. Best of all... it only set me back $5 and some change.

The cover artwork depicts Jim Hunter, Rollie Fingers, Joe Rudi, Gene Tenace, Bert Campaneris, and manager Dick Williams. It's too cool of a cover to let sit in a box, so I immediately headed to Michael's and purchased an album cover frame. I had to do some shuffling... but it's now officially a member of my Wall of Fame:

I kept it in the wrapper, but if you're interested in listening to the album... click here.

Today's question of the day:

What's your favorite album cover artwork?

Here's mine:

Okay... so I cheated and used my CD cover. But my album collection is currently gathering dust in my buddy's garage and my guess is he's still at work. It doesn't change the fact that this album cover is awesome.

Happy Friday everyone... I hope all of you have a safe holiday weekend. Sayonara!

I don't know I have a favorite, but I'm starting to get into vinyl thanks to some buddies from work. The missus and I now have 3 records - The Black Jeys, a Sufjan Stevens album, and a sweet Fiddler on the Roof piece with images from the film inside. Now I just need a player!

I have a bunch but for it's striking strangeness I'll go with Debbie Harry's KooKoo. I have it but here's a copy from the web

My favorite inside is from the original fold open Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

For me it would be eaily Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay. There are two covers as it is a double sided book and the viynl cover is a mix of the CD versions. I'm a massive Coldplay fan so I'm collecting there whole discography on CD and Viynl so I have Mylo Xyloto on CD and Viynl. I love the new Grafitti wall which is real and somewhere in England.

I love vinyl. I've got some jukebox 45s and LPs. I've got stuff that's autographed and stuff that's framed. There's no way that I can pick a favorite album. It would take me months to narrow it down.

spastik - i need a player too. i found a pretty cool one at urban outfitters that plays off of your usb port, but it was over $100. too rich for my blood.

hackenbush - that cover is awesome! never thought to rate the inside, but that elton john album is cool too (both inside & out).

mini groover - love coldplay... but this was the first time i've seen this album cover. huge fan of certain graffiti. nice call on this cover.

offy - i'd love to get some of my lp's autographed... great idea.

martyn - i own this album... although didn't appreciate the album for its cover until now.

In my younger days, I always stayed late after the show to meet the band and get things autographed if possible. I've got all kinds of CD, vinyl, pictures, etc. autographed by various bands. Vinyl looks awesome autographed and framed especially on the vinyl itself with a silver Sharpie.

Some of my favorite pieces, completely unrelated, is when you get a picture of yourself with the band from a previous concert signed the next time that you see them.
