Blog Trade #5: “é rayhahn, rayhahn”

What's your definition of a great trade? Is it when you rip someone off and acquire a HOF autograph for a $1 insert? How about when you give up a $10 relic card in order to obtain a $3 card that will finish off a set you've been building for years? Or is the perfect trade when both sides receive equal book value?

This hobby is awesome, because the answer to the above question is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think a great trade is when both sides are happy with what they receive. And last week, Rhubarb_Runner over at “é rayhahn, rayhahn” contacted me about trading some of my Twins for a few of his cards that would be better off in my collection than his.

Sure we negotiated a little between book value and sell value... but in the end... the trade agreement left both of us pleased. He now has eleven new additions to his Minnesota Twins PC. And me? Well I received these PC additions:

One San Jose Shark

One Seattle Seahawk

Two Green Bay Packers

Two San Diego Padres

and Four Oakland Athletics

You can see what I sent him by clicking here. Collectors can debate who got the better end of the deal. Personally... I think it's pretty fair. Both of us were able to unload cards that we didn't want... Both of us received cards that are going straight into our PC's... and most importantly... both of us are happy with this trade. In my opinion... that makes this a great trade.

If anyone has any Twins cards for trade... I encourage you to head over to Rhubarb_Runner's blog and contact him. Who knows... he might just have some cards for your PC.

Thanks again Rhubarb_Runner for the trade. I look forward to trading with you again in the future.

Monday's question of the day:

What's your definition of a great trade?

Have a great week.... and Oyasumi nasai! (Good night!)

When both sides are happy.

When both of us have a lot of work to do (aka crossing off old wants, filling in new wants, posting trade posts of the awesome new stuff we got)!

This question is a no-brainer: when everyone involved is happy. Not only are the two of us happy, but so is the local card shop owner (great guy) who I got the cards from at a fair price in the first place.

I have to admit, even though you weren't interested in the non-relic/autos, it's a lot easier to work up a trade when your collecting is broad enough to encompass several teams and players.

Thanks again for the trade, and I'll keep you in mind in the future. Best of luck with your collecting!

This reminds me, too: I am much happier paying $1 for a cheap card that I've been looking for for several years than finding a $10 card and getting it for $1.
