Best of Luck

Woke up and Team USA had a 1-0 lead.

Mike Eruzione Signed Puck

*This signed puck was a flea market freebie from 2013.  I turned a Pokemon find into some free items.  One of them was this puck signed by the captain of the 1980 Team USA hockey team.

As I'm starting to write this post, Team Canada has tied it up.  Obviously I'm rooting for Team USA, but I've got nothing but love and respect for our friends in the north.

**If this card looks familiar, it's because it's the third time I'm showing it off on my blog.  That's how much I love it.  It's one of my favorite hockey inserts from the 90'sGretzky only suited up for Team Canada once in the Winter Olympics (Nagano 1998), but represented them a bunch of other times during the Canada Cup tournaments in the 80's and 90's.

As we head into the 3rd period, best of luck to both.  May the best team win.

Happy Sunday and sayonara!

Overtime

Jack Hughes scores in overtimeTeam USA wins.  What an amazing 3rd period.  Honestly I thought Team Canada was going to win with their stellar play and all of their shots on goal.  Kudos to Connor Hellebuyck.  He made some insane saves.

***Brian Leetch represented Team USA in three Winter Olympics.  In his third and final appearance, he helped Team USA win the silver medal in 2002.  Anyone remember the team who took home the gold?  Yup.  Team Canada.

Unfortunately I don't own any cards of Hughes or Hellebuyck, so this Leetch will have to do.

That was a hell of a game by both teams! I'm thrilled that the US won both gold medals but Canada certainly deserved it too.

What a game! Sad Macklin didn't score, but a USA win and a good game make up for it

Great tournaments by the USA Women and Men. Top talent on both teams that played as a team. Winter Olympics are my favorite. Enjoy the time all!

My daughter wears a Hughes Devils jersey since we live about 20 minutes from Newark. She went to a game this year with his school choir and has gotten really into following the Devils.

That was so great to watch!

Olympic hockey with the NHL players might be my favorite thing in sports to watch--there's not much else that will make me set my alarm for 8AM! (That and a good card show, pretty much!)

Great game, but I'm not sure that I like the gold medal being decided 3-on-3. I think playing with a full team in OT for the gold medal game would be appropriate, as in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

I stayed up 'til 1 watching Miracle, so there was no way I was getting up again at 5 to watch the gold medal game.

Saw Liu and most of the women's ice skating (yay), Chok and Bates and a lot of ice dancing (hmm), and most of the U.S. women's curling matches (sigh). And other random stuff if it happened to be on when I was watching.

Congrats on the puck.

Hellebuyck was on another level the whole Olympics! He reminded me of Dominik Hasek in his prime...

Never thought I'd see the US women and men win hockey gold in the same Olympics. Alysa Liu, Chloe Kim, Mikaela Shiffrin, and many other awesome athetes made this one of the best Games of my lifetime. Very nice puck btw!

johnnys trading spot - what a game. we don't talk sports at the lunch table (outside of the occasional football banter), but we did today.

john sharp - can't believe they pulled it off. great olympics for team usa hockey and their fans

dennis - during the medal ceremony, it was tough to watch team canada. they played their butts off. i only watched part of the game, but from what i saw... i kept thinking they were gonna win. but hellebuyck was stellar. he made some insane saves

ginko-5 - i totally thought he was gonna score on that breakaway.

rj sahl - only watched the highlights of the women's game. but like you said... both womens teams were talented. mens too.

johngy - thank you. so many great highlights from these games.

the lost collector - that's awesome. i'm sure she was stoked about that win.

gregory - yup!

kin - yup! yup!

batting out of order - yup! yup! yup!

brett alan - it was so cool to see how proud these guys were to represent their country. i'm not a big enough of a hockey fan (anymore) to chime in on the 3 on 3 thing. but i'm guessing old school hockey fans want 5 on 5 action.

elliptical man - i wasn't able to wake up at 5am either. i'm pretty sure i could watch the game on peacock, but since i already know the outcome, i won't. our lunch crew spent a few minutes talking about the ice skating. i didn't watch any of that... but they mentioned something about the poor conditions of the ice... and how it related to speed skating. as for the puck... it was a pretty cool find. i took a risk buying it, but psa certified it as authentic.

matt - oh man. hasek was the man. i'm gonna guess there are a few hockey collectors who decided to pc hellebuyck after his olympic performance. i know i'd love to add a rookie card of his to my collection.

chris - based on the lunch table conversation, it was the best winter olympics. that being said, i'm the oldest person at the table. some of our crew have only watched it a few times. by the way... i was so bummed that chloe kim didn't win her 3rd gold medal. but how she showered the gold medal winner with support showed how classy she is.
