Chips & Donuts

Eating healthier is one of the most common New Year's resolutions and something I need to improve on.  But my first post of the year centers around cards related to a pair of unhealthy snacks:  chips and donuts.

Before I get to them, I wanted to thank all of you who commented on my post earlier in the week.  I thought I was getting better, but ended up spending most of the week in bed.  Today was the first day that I woke up and wasn't super congested.  Now if I could only kick this cough.

I also owe a huge thank you to my best friend who dropped off chicken noodle soup, orange juice, oranges, miso soup, and other snacks to me this week.  She did it "lockdown" style by leaving it on the porch and texting me from a distance.  Anyone else remember those days?

To return the favor, I woke and took a trip down to Dunkin' Donuts.  They're giving away these little tote bags (and a donut) with the purchase of any beverage.  She really likes stuff like this, while I'm more into stuff like this:

Back in 1998, I opened a lot of basketball and pulled this insert.

It's just another example of why I enjoy inserts from that era over today's stuff.

Let's move along to the "chips" segment of this post.

Now I've been sitting on a bunch of packages that I was planning on opening over the course of the holiday break.  But "phlegm" happens.

The thing about being congested is that most of the stuff I've been eating barely has any flavor.  Then earlier in the week, I remembered that Ryan a.k.a. SumoMenkoMan sent me a full case of 2025 Calbee Chips.

These are just salty enough to tickle my taste buds.  Plus each bag includes a pack of two baseball cards.  here's what this year's design looks like:

So far I've opened seven bags of chips, but this is the only pack of cards.  I'll definitely open up the rest at some point.  The same applies to the eBay purchases and blogger care packages (from Angus, Dennis, and Bob) shown above.

Update:  I just received three PWE's (not shown above) from Kenny, Matt, & Jim.

I did manage to ship out some holiday cards and care packages on Tuesday to the following zip codes:

I Assure You It's Fake

Lately, life has been pretty good.

My back hasn't been that sore.  I've had the chance to hang out with my parents and one of my best friends the past two weeks.  I don't need to report back to work until next Friday.  My snack supply inventory is fully stocked.  I finally discovered and purchased Stadium Club and Allen & Ginter blasters at Target (in Portland).  And Clerks arrived on Netflix on August 1st.

I own VHS and DVD copies of the iconic independent film, but the idea that I don't have to get off of my butt to watch one of my favorite 90's independent films makes it extra special.  Plus the timing couldn't be more perfect.

Two weeks ago, I received my COMC shipment and buried among the numerous autographs, rookies, and memorabilia cards I ordered for fellow bloggers was a small stack of Clerks trading cards.

Last year, Upper Deck finally gave card collecting fans of the film what they've been waiting for when they released 2017 Skybox Clerks.  I considered busting a box or two, but decided to see if I could find cheap singles online first.

COMC was the first place I looked and that's where I discovered these pretty cool manufactured relics...

These are probably pretty cheesy to those who have never seen the film, but if you have and you're a fan, I'm sure you can find one or two that appeal to you.

My personal favorite is the Happy Scrappy Hero Pup Video:

Randall's scene with the mom and little kid is one of the funniest parts of the movie.  It's definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK and could be deemed offensive to some.  But if you're okay with inappropriate language and "adult video" humor, then there's an outside chance you could appreciate this clip:

This card was the final card I needed for the set and by far the most expensive.  It set me back $2.95.  To put this in perspective, the other twelve cards cost me only $11.25.

I'm not sure what I'll actually do with a manufactured relic card set in the long run, but considering the entire set was only $14.20, I can slide them into top loaders and use them as drink coasters without blinking.

Well... I'm headed off to Hulu to watch Kalifornia... which is another classic 90's independent film.

Outside of the two movies I've already listed, I'd add The Usual Suspects, American History X, Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski, and Reservoir Dogs.

And even though I don't see it happening anytime soon, I'd definitely collect a Keyser Söze rookie card, a game used Lebowski bowling shirt card, or a Mr. White toothpick prop card.

Okay... I realize two days in a row of movie related posts is a bit excessive.  Thursday's post should be baseball related.
