Take Me Out To The Ball Game!

I've been an Oakland A's fan since the 70's when my older brother started taking me to games. Last night we relived old times by going to the A's/Dodgers game, along with sixteen other family members. Among them were baseball fans from Hawaii, so the Kurt Suzuki (he's from Maui) Fan Club was in full force.

Suzuki struggled by going hitless and striking out once. But Coco Crisp went 2 for 3, walked twice, and had three stolen bases to lead the A's to a 3 to 0 victory over the visiting Dodgers. Brandon McCarthy pitched seven shutout innings allowing only two hits, one walk, while striking out five.

But I'm sure most of you could care less about a recap... especially Mr. Zakwin & Mr. Night Owl... so I'll move on to my pair of PC Additions:

A's Helmet

I've been wanting one of these for a while now, but every time I go, they're sold out. It's one of those deals where it comes filled with popcorn for $6 or $7. I'm debating on whether to use it as a cereal bowl or a wall decoration for my office. Either way... I'm glad I finally have one.

A's Souvenir Bat

As I left the ballpark, I stopped by the Fan Shop and found this cool, miniature Louisville Slugger bat with Athletics stamped on it. It was one of the more affordable items in the store, so I picked it up. I figure it'll be a nice addition to my A's shelf in my office.

Now... here's the section you've all been waiting for: the contest portion of this post.

I figure I'd switch gears this time. Instead of having you write an opinion or a blog response, let's try having you make some predictions.

On Friday, the San Francisco Giants cross the Bay and visit Oakland for a three game series.

A. How many games will the A's win in the series?
B. How many hits will Kurt Suzuki get in the series?
C. How many home runs will the A's hit in the series?

The amount of points you earn will depend on the number of correct predictions you make:

1 point - Zero Correct Predictions
3 points - One Correct Prediction
5 points - Two Correct Predictions
7 points - Three Correct Predictions

I'll accept responses for this post until Friday at 3pm (PST) and will tally up the scores Sunday afternoon/evening after the game. Good luck!

Happy Wednesday and sayonara!

Also, I got a bat at a game the other day too! Went and saw a Reds game, and they gave out a free commemorative Brandon Phillips silver slugger bat to the first 10,000. We were like 10,001 so we missed out, BUT when we got to our seats right off the wall in right field there was a bat sitting on the ground at the warning track. When some t-shirt cannon people walked by I asked if we could have it and they threw it up to us. So awesome.

Not a game entry, but... That A's popcorn helmet reminds me of the sundae helmets. As a kid I looked forward that bad ice cream and phony chocolate sauce on the whole ride to Riverfront Stadium (2.5 hours). I'd dream of getting a whole set of helmets, but we only went to one or two games a year.

A's win 2 of 3.
Suzuki gets 4 hits
5 homers for the A's in the series.

They had those sundae helmets too... but I was way too stuffed to get one. That would be pretty cool to get a complete set of those mini helmets... especially by attending a bunch of games and eating all of those sundaes.

Congratulations... that's pretty cool that they hooked you up. A free bat > $10 bat!

The A's are surging and the Giants are on the decline. The A's have won the last 9 games at home against the Giants. They face Lincecum Friday so the streak should continue, but I think it will end there. On Saturday it is Bumgarner vs. Ross. Bumgarner is coming off a loss and rarely looses twice in a row. Add to that Ross' record of 2-6, 6.11 ERA. Sunday will be a pitchers duel with Matt Cain vs. Brandon McCarthy. My gut tells me that Cain will outlast McCarthy.

Now for the X-Factor. The A's just called up Derek Norris from Sacramento. He will be splitting catching assignments with Suzuki. Suzuki has been solid against Giants pitching but who knows how many games he will play.

Other than Lincecum, the Giants have done a good job shutting down Home Run production, Teams generally beat them by getting runners in scoring position.

So here are my guesses.

1 Win
2 Hits for Suzuki
2 Home Runs, maybe all off of Lincecum, for the team.

Okay... now that entries are closed, I'll go ahead and make my predictions:

The A's will win 2 of 3. Kurt will play in 2 of the games and will bust out of his slump with 3 hits. And they'll hit 4 home runs as a team.
