A Strange Photo

Here's my yearbook photo for the 2025-26 school year.  Two of my friends are the yearbook editors and they informed our lunch crew that Stranger Things was going to be this year's theme.  So I dusted off my old costume and pulled out my Dustin sticker for picture day.

That morning I realized that I still needed a few cards for my Stranger Things set build.

That afternoon I placed an order on eBay and crossed off three cards from the Character Card insert set:

2018 Topps Stranger Things Character Cards #ST-4, ST-8, and ST-9

My goal is to wrap up this set before the final season comes out in late November.

Sorry the number of published posts on here have dipped.  Things are still crazy at work.  I've got Back to School Night in a few hours.  Figured I'd write a quick post to catch up with all of you.

What Are The Odds?

A few weeks ago, one of my friends published his first book.  He's one of the most creative and energetic teachers I had the pleasure of working with.  So I'm super excited to support him and read this book.

On a sadder note, I heard about Robert Redford passing away while driving into work yesterday morning.  Here's the only card of his that I own:

Roy Hobbs Broder Card

Not 100% sure I ever watched The Natural, but I know I have seen a few of his other films.  The two most recent I've watched were Captain America: The Winter Soldier and All Is Lost.  Although the news of his passing was sad, I'm happy to hear that he lived to be eighty-nine years old.

Well that's it for today.  I still have a Flea Market Finds post in the works with plans to hit up another flea market this Saturday.  If I'm lucky, I'll finish writing the first one over the weekend and publish it next week.  Cross you fingers.

Until then...

Are you a fan of Stranger Things?
Do you have a favorite character?

Do you have a favorite Robert Redford film?

I look forward to reading and responding to your comments.

Happy Wednesday and sayonara!

Robert Redford was an American Film Icon, and, The Natural is the best baseball movie ever made. I've never watched Stranger Things.

Good Job.

Enjoyed watching Stranger Things by myself, nagged my wife enough that she then watched with me, and then watched a third time when my son was old enough to watch and "catch up". We are all waiting for the wrap up to the series, though I am trying to keep expectations low as to not be disappointed with how the series ends. Favourite character....probably Steve...

Revised my comment because typos, even when in transit reading, can't be left uncorrected. :)

1) "crazy cool" yearbook pic.
2) RIP Mr. Redford. Great actor (and the women loved him, lol) The Brad Pitt before there was a Brad Pitt.

Could you get them to edit the photo and make it like the ‘93 Upper Deck Mike Perez card?

Oh, I don't think I could be a teacher if it involves costumes (or that standing in front of class thing).

Never watched Stranger Things, it's not my kind of show. For Robert Redford, I've seen The Natural, which was a big deal because it was shot in Buffalo. But my favorite is All The President's Men as it's an ode to what journalism can do and why it's important.

I always enjoy your themed yearbook photos. "Stranger Things" never grabbed me, but I liked Redford in "The Natural" and "All the President's Men"

I watched the first couple of seasons of Stranger Things. My daughter has since gotten into it and watched the whole thing. Maybe she'd be interested in the card.

Favorite Redford movie is the Hot Rock filmed both on Long Island and in NYC.

Ya need to see The Natural believe me you'll love it as for me I prefer that over The Stranger Things cause I have never seen an episode of it. But no offense Fuji I think your more like a Garbage Pail Kid in the photo.

I've watched Stranger Things and I'll watch the conclusion, but I've liked it less and less with each new season. It also doesn't help how long the gaps are between each season.

I do like Stranger Things but I sort of agree with the Lost Collector. I like the core four characters as I can relate to them playing D&D like I did with some of my friends back in the early 80s. Favorite Redford film is The Natural.

I liked the first season of Stranger Things but it kind of jumped the shark for me after that. If I have a favorite character it's the dad. I loved the scene where he is driving to Croce's You Don't Mess Around With Jim.

The earliest movie I remember seeing at a movie theatre is a Robert Redford in Jeramiah Johnson. I am not old enough to have seen it when it came out so I am guessing that I saw it as a kid in the summer time when our movie theatre had Coke Lid days, where you got in free with the lid off of a Coke bottle.

Started watching Stranger Things with my eldest a few years ago. Was a bit much for him so we stopped. What I saw was interesting though since we're more of a movie household than a TV household, it's pretty slim odds that we'll get back to it.

Favorite Redford. The Sting is basically a perfect movie. I've a big soft spot for Sneakers as well.

i watched the first season of Stranger Things on DVD. My favorite Robert Redford movie is the sting

All The President's Men is great, but I've always liked the spy thriller Three Days Of The Condor. They made a mini-series based on it a few years ago.

Great pic, man 😂 I loved Stranger Things when it first came out. Then I lost track. I may have to pick up where I left off at some point.

I'd say All The President's Men was my favorite film that Redford acted in, and Quiz Show was my favorite that he directed.

I wonder how many conversations recently involved the older person (like me) naming various films he starred in in the 70s/80s or so, and the younger person looking blankly at all of it before looking it up and going "oh, the guy from HYDRA!"

john sharp - guess i need to see if the natural is streaming online somewhere.

matt - thanks. i already have my next year's idea ready to go :D

craziejoe - steve is a great character. i like how he bonded with dustin

johnnys trading spot - i definitely understand the comparison to pitt.

jeremya1um - we do have retakes coming up :D

night owl & dennis - i'll have to keep an eye out for all the president's men when i'm digging through dvds at the flea market

bo - not familiar with hot rock and couldn't find it on any of my streaming services.

sg488 & poison75 - i definitely see the natural on dvd at the flea market. the next time i find a dollar copy in decent condition, i'll buy it and give it a shot

the lost collector - the long gaps mess me up, because i forget what happened before. so i'm forced to rewatch it. hmmm... maybe that's netflix plan

gcrl - although my friends and i tried to play d&d when we were kids, we never actually played the right way. i kinda wish i knew people who played, because i'd be tempted to give it a shot

adame - that driving scene where he's singing is awesome. wasn't familiar with jeremiah johnson, but i read the plot and it seems really interesting.

nick vossbrink & rod (padrographs) - seen both the sting and sneakers. agree that they're great movies

gca - i'm pretty sure i've seen three days of the condor, but couldn't find the miniseries online. if you know which streaming service has it, let me know and i'll give it a shot

big tone - i feel like it's been a couple of years since the 4th season, so i'll need to go back and rewatch things to refresh my memory before the final season comes out

brett alan - pretty sure i saw quiz show in theaters back in my college days. i asked a few of my leadership kids if they were familiar with redford and they didn't know who he was. but a couple recognized his character in captain america
