Twenty years ago, I purchased this Acura TL:
I knew it involved a parasitic drain, but couldn't figure out what was drawing power when it wasn't in use. So last week, I took it to a mechanic who specializes in electrical issues. He identified the problem and fixed it... but holy smokes. Car maintenance can be crazy expensive.
I'm now left with some decisions. The first one is whether or not I'm planning on keeping this car. She's no longer my daily driver and I definitely don't need three cars. But she's literally one of my dream cars and I've babied her the past twenty years. She was garaged for sixteen years and is in amazing condition.
Decisions, decisions. If I decide to keep her, I have about ten thousand more miles before needing to change the timing belt... which is going to cost a pretty penny. I'll probably just list it on Craigslist, test out the market, and see if I receive any reasonable offers.
Well that recaps what's going on with me on the automotive front. In regards to the hobby, I received a few care packages this week. One involves a really cool addition to my Japanese athlete PC, which I'll show off in a future post. Another was a box of stuff from John over at Johnny's Trading Spot.
I also received two PWEs with some 2025 Topps Holiday for my set build. These nine were from Elliptical Man over at The View from the Third Floor:
Thank you Brendan and John for helping me out. Here's where I'm currently at with this set build:
I want to wrap up this post with this lenticular Johnny Ray:
1983 Kellogg's #24
Today is his birthday... along with my mom's. Happy birthday Mr. Ray! And happy heavenly birthday Mom! Miss and love you so much.
Everyone else... here is today's question of the day:
What's your view on cars?
Are they just a means of transportation? Are you a car enthusiast who appreciates them for more? Maybe somewhere in the middle?
Although I'm not one of those guys who works and tinkers on them, I'm grateful to own two of my dream cars.
I look forward to reading your comments and seeing if any other card collectors are car enthusiasts too.
Happy Sunday and sayonara!

Good thing you posted this today- I had planned to mail your cards out tomorrow. I will find something to send in place of the ones you received
Happy Heavenly Birthday Momma Fuji.
I use a car only as a means of transportation, but I definitely appreciate them, especially classics. I also build scale car models.
Happy birthday to you and happy heavenly birthday to your mom!
In terms of cars, though I see them as a use of transportation I'd get a car I wanted for sure, assuming I had the money for it. Right now I'm not particularly fond of the car I drive, but as long as it takes me where I need to go I'm happy. When it's time to get another one I hope I have a Nissan Rogue in my sights lol
I have all of the Holidays except for the Fried.
I enjoy manual transmission cars, but that’s probably the height of my interest in cars.
I think you should keep your car and fix it, even though it's pricey.
I think you will regret it if you let it go.
It will also cost much more to try and replace it, and it wouldn't be your car, just a substitute.
After 25 years posting on car forums the one thing everyone has in common is having a car they listed as their dream car and regretting letting it go.
I put a lot less effort into cars, but I do try to keep them for as long as possible. The most recent one lasted 15 years. I hold no real attachment to them though -- they're much more expensive than cards.
I'm not into vehicles, but I will say this I miss having an "old fashion" pick up truck. NO extended cab, one bench seat and a very long bed. I try to keep my vehicle for as long as possible.
I love cars, but I'll experience the really special ones vicariously through others. I drive a nondescript commuter appliance that will soon tick past 200k miles. The price difference between my car and the ones next to it in the parking deck at work is more than my entire card collection. I'd rather quietly get to the office and have a dramatic card collection than spend my commutes looking out a more expensive, cardless windshield.
Happy Heavenly Birthday to your mom!
I used to be a big car enthusiast but have not been able to afford dream cars yet! Pesky college savings for the two boys is where funds are going that could be used for cars.
Since 1999 and graduating college I have only had three cars. However once the boys are out and retirement is covered plan on trying to find a 1971 Mustang Hunter Green, or a 1968 Mustang fastback!
I'm glad to see you making so much headway on that Holiday set! Johnny's Kellogg's card looks fantastic too. Happy heavenly birthday, Mama Fuji! As for cars, I don't care much about them other than getting me places, and I tend to drive mine until they're done for. Good luck with whatever you decide on yours.
I appreciated my old car when I had to drive to work in the US but very few things were as satisfying to me than the 6 hour span where I got to say bye to my car insurance, sell off my car at car max, mail the license plates back to the state and cash in the check I got for selling the car. Free'd from the shackles of insurance payments, annual inspections, frequent maintenance, rising gas and toll prices, and in the end I got more for the car than I thought I would (I severely underestimated the used car market post-COVID).
I am far from a car person believe me. I can't even change my oil or a lightbulb. My dad taught me sports not cars. Cars also make me sad because I know how much it costs to have one. last year alone I put so much into mine
