Four Six-packs

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin... into the future.  But I finally had a chance to sit down in my office yesterday, open some packages, and sort some cards.

Today I'm gonna share four sports card sextets sent to me from three sports card bloggers.  First up are six new cards for my 2025 Topps Holiday set build:

Chris over at The Collector sent me these a few weeks ago... leaving me with four cards left:

As soon as I have a few minutes to update a few other sets, I'm gonna place an order on Sportlots and clear out my cabinet containing a bunch of sets in progress.

He also sent me these six cards:

The Griffey was sort of a head scratcher, since I haven't really advertised my collection of his cards.  But I'll happily add it and all of the others cards seen here into my collectionThank you Chris!

Next up is a six pack of cards from the other Chris in our blogosphere (Nachos Grande):

Most people know I collect A's and Padres, but not everyone knows about my Expos or Surfer PCThanks Chris!

The final six cards were part of a jam packed PWE containing a bunch of Greg Maddux cards from John over at Johnny's Trading Spot:

Outside of my Steve Largent PC, I don't have any of my team or player collections listed in TCDB.  But I'm guessing Maddux is my third or fourth largest player collection (behind Gwynn, Henderson, and possibly Ichiro).  Out of the eighteen cards he sent, these six were new to my binders.

In addition to this PWE, John also sent me a medium size flat rate box that I also opened and sorted yesterday.  But it's going to take me a little more time publish the contents of that package.

In the meantime, you should head over to his blog and join in on his weekly giveawayThanks John!

Well that wraps up another post.  But before I forget, here is today's question:

Most of us know each other's main PC's.

Do you have any smaller, lesser known collections?

If not, maybe there are other things you collect outside of cards.

For example, I collect cards featuring Bernese Mountain Dogs, athletes born and raised in San Jose, and a ton of non-card related stuff like LP's, Legos, and video games.

I look forward to reading and responding to your comments.

Happy Tuesday and sayonara!

  2. I think I broadcast my collections pretty well so I don't have any lesser known ones I don't believe.

I have all 4 of those Holiday needs if you want to save a few cents, and wait until I can get the cards out the door.

  3. Cool cards. Love the surfer card. I collected Mike (Michael) Shayne detective novels for many years, and I really should finish that "set" of 68. I'm at 65 books.

  4. Almost too many to count, but let's go with my funny name player collection. Featuring Bean Stringfellow, Razor Shines, and other greats.

  5. I was expecting a six pack of beers....but cards is even better!
I also own a lot of legos, and I hope to soon own all of the band Lifehouse's albums. They have only eight, but I own three and listening to Spotify reduces the need for CDs, but I'll end up getting them all anyway

  6. I have many different smaller collections that I just don't share with other collectors. I tend to focus on those collections on my own.

  7. That is something I have to do is start sorting my monster boxes. Congrats on the cool pick-ups and do you need any Canseco cards?? I have seen surfer cards before and I think there are some bench warmers cards similar to the surfer cards. Did they make any sets of Surfer cards???

  8. My collecting interest in order are: Virdon, Red Sox, Boxing, Preacher Roe, 70s Steelers. I have long defunct Marino and Allstott collections that I haven't added a card to since around 1999 but I have never got rid of them either. (though I did sell off a few Marino RCs over the years. I think at one point I had ten and I probably only have two now.)

  9. I have a lot more than my wife likes, and probably more than she realizes.
In baseball cards I have notebooks for Warren Spahn, Satchel Paige and players in the Negro League.
In comic books I collect Uncle Scrooge and Classic Illustrated.
I also still listen to music on CDs and am trying to get all of the Gordon Lightfoot albums/ discs and all of Elton John’s.

  10. Who doesn't love Griffey, am I right? Glad you could use the cards, and good luck finishing the Holiday set; I'm sure you'll have it done by Easter :)

My lesser-known collections would be players from New Haven, or anyone who played in Connecticut. I've mentioned them before on my blog but it's such a niche that I don't think anyone bothers to send me specific players. I only get Red Sox and a Packers card or two (which is definitely not a complaint!)

  11. johnnys trading spot - thanks so much for the set help. can't wait to update my lists. stay tuned for a post

night owl - if you still have them, i'd gladly accept them.

karsal - good luck on your hunt for the final 3 shayne novels. i have collected a few book series in my lifetime.

jeff b - bean stringfellow is an awesome name

ginko-5 - sorry... i'm actually not a big fan of beer. never acquired the taste. but i do love legos :D

ohiotim - i hear ya. can't think of any off the top of my head, but i'm sure i have some collections i've never mentioned on this blog

rr - maybe one day i'll enter all of my cansecos into a database. as of now, i couldn't tell you any specific canseco cards that i absolutely need. whenever i pick up new ones, i just check my binder. sometimes i need them, sometimes i don't. i can't think of any specific surfer sets, but they have made a couple of sets that include surfers. there's a beach sports set from the early 90's. plus a pretty rare set from that era that featured skateboarders and surfers.

adame - marino and alstott are excellent choices. marino was my favorite qb during the 80's. and alstott was a beast.

kcjays - lol. great response. hopefully you wife doesn't read this post :D

chris - only lunatics hate griffey :D do you collect athletes born in connecticut? if so, i'll try to dig through my boxes and send some your way.

  12. I started listing the lesser-known collections on my website (though a few like the metacards are pretty well known in the hobby now).
