Odd Man Out

With everyone blogging about the release of 2020 Topps Series One... I kinda feel like the odd man out since I have no intentions of opening any in the near future.  I might try to track down one or two of the Japanese players in the Global Game Medallion manufactured relics set.  Until then, I'll leave you with a fifty-five year old piece of cardboard signed by the first Japanese player in MLB history:

1965 Topps #282

Back in 1965, you gotta wonder if Mashi felt like the odd man out playing over here in the states.

Happy Saturday and sayonara!

  1. Very cool! I was a big fan of the retro cards that came out in the 2000s that paid homage to that card with Murakami paired with other Japanese players that made the leap to MLB. This card was also among my favorites from my '65 O-Pee-Chee set build.

  2. First card I bought after getting back in the hobby. Would love to get it (or the TCMA card) signed but yeah just happy to have it.

  3. A trailblazer. I bought a few packs of 2020, I don’t hate the design completely.

  5. brian - when murakami went on his book tour a few years ago, i met a guy who brought that set to the signing. he had him sign each card in the set. and i'm so jealous that you have a 65 opc copy. i want to get one of those eventually

    johnnys trading spot - thanks

nick vossbrink - it was so cool to actually meet him and have him sign my copy of his rookie card

sumomenkoman - i don't hate the design either. in fact, i want to go after the laureano and as many parallels i can get my hands on

the lost collector - thanks. it's the centerpiece to my murakami pc

sport card collectors - i've seen enough on blogs to know that i don't hate the set... but don't love it either. i will be going out and targeting certain cards for sure though

  8. Topps stepped their game up with Series 1 this year. I know it's not for everyone, but I'd recommend a blaster box if you're the least bit interested.

  9. I'm an odd man myself. And I'm out, too, having not yet given into the 2020 Series 1 itch. I know I will though. My A's are yours! And very nice card, by the way.

  10. sean - i'd love to add another signed copy of this card to my collection one day. if i ever meet him again, i'd pay to have him sign it in japanese

matt - lol. i've found a few cards i'm interested int tracking down

henry blanchette - i won't be buying one unless i can find it for $10 on clearance. i'm going to try my best to avoid blasters in 2020

peter k steinberg - if my mom were still around, she'd say were weren't odd, we're unique.
