Just What I Needed

October was a pretty big month for me and my collection.  I was able to add a pair of cornerstone cards that I'll be writing about either this week or next.  It pretty much exemplifies how I intend to spend the majority of my hobby budget from this point out... or at least until I change things up again.

Unfortunately... this approach to collecting often leaves some pretty big holes in my collection.  I've actually been avoiding current Oakland Athletics for a few years now.  They're still my favorite sports franchise, but I just got tired of management trading away my favorite players whenever I started to get attached to them.

Thankfully... there are bloggers out there who are willing to help fill those holes.  Earlier in the week, I received a package from P-Town Tom who runs the blog: Waiting 'til Next Year....

Inside he sent me a bunch of 2018 Oakland Athletics hits:

2018 Topps Tribute Autographs Blue #TA-FB

Baretto has been the A's top prospect the past two years and fans are patiently waiting for him to break out and become an everyday starter.  Hopefully 2019 is his year to shine.

2018 Panini Chronicles Autographs #CA-CP

Like this autographed card says... he can fill in anywhere for the Athletics.  He started at least one game at each of the infield and outfield positions for them in 2018.

2018 Topps Chrome Autograph #RA-PB

Blackburn was injured most of 2018.  Not exactly sure if he's projected to be in the A's starting rotation in 2019.

2018 Panini Immaculate Collection Rookie Debut Signatures #RDS-DF

Fowler split time between Nashville and Oakland in 2018Bob Melvin once said he was the A's centerfielder of the futureWe'll see.

Here are two guys that are definitely part of the A's future plans:

2016 Elite Extra Edition Future Threads Silhouettes Duals #FTSD-OM

When I decided to focus on legends and fan favorites, I knew I'd be missing out on a future star here and there.  Matt Olson and Matt Chapman are two guys I hardly have any cards of.  This was a very welcomed addition to my Oakland A's PC... as well as my Prime # PC#ebay1of1

Tom also hooked me up with this magazine card of Mark McGwire:

I actually have this card already, but I took a paper cutter to it.  This card will be left uncut.

And rounding out this care package were these three awesome vintage cards:

While I don't go out of my way to buy Baretto, Pinder, or Fowler cards... I don't have a problem with buying cards of these three fan favorites.

Well that's it for today.

Thank you so much Tom for this very generous care package.  These cardds are just what I needed.

I've added you to the hit list (lefthand side bar)... and will start targeting more Cubs for your collection immediately.

Happy Saturday and sayonara!

  1. Glad you liked the cards. But, ahem, those were sent to even up the score... not to have me added to the hit list!

  4. Still don't have your sketch card done yet, but I can send some nice A's your way anytime you wish. I was also able to replace that Wasp sketch card I wasn't too fond but you seemed to like quite a lot, so she's available now too if you want her.

  6. p-town tom - lol. sorry once you've been added to the list, there's only one way to have your name taken off.

gcrl & bulldog- the big one will either be blogged about tomorrow or next tuesday. possibly my favorite purchase of the year.

twitch - i'll gladly accept any unwanted a's cardboard. as for the wasp, i honestly don't know much about the character. i just really enjoyed that particular sketch. i'm sure there are some bigger fans of her out there that'll cherish it more. btw... can't wait to see the replacement.

julie owens - agree. he hit me with three solid names and two of my favorite designs of all-time.
