A Learning Experience

If I had to rank my favorite types of cards to collect, vintage hall of famers are right up there with pack pulled, on-card autographs.  Unfortunately, I'm not rich... so condition has never really been a high priority when it comes to purchasing and collecting them.

However after digging through my file folders looking for scans of 60's cards in response to Tony's 30-Day Baseball Card Challenge, I found this:

A few years ago, I picked up this high grade Clemente on COMC  for under $100, which I felt was a pretty good bargain.  Later I'd learn that an OC qualifier greatly diminishes the value of a card and chalked it up to a learning experience.

Today... I don't regret this purchase in the slightest.  Actually... I consider this card to be one of my favorite 60's cards in the collection.

Happy Thursday and sayonara!

  1. One of the best Clemente cards for sure. Off center? Who cares....your's is fantastic.

  2. That Clemente has some nice eye- appeal - too bad PSA had to add the (OC) qualifier on the label.

  3. I think Clemente is suffocating. You need to free him from that plastic prison :)

  4. Just think how much the card would have been listed for without the OC - I think PSA did you a favor, it's a gorgeous card!

  5. Graded value is irrelevant. That's a heckuva nice card.

  6. Thanks guys! Glad I'm not the only one who appreciates Clemente.

Laurens - I know. This card is worth big time $$$ if it doesn't have the OC attached to it.

Reds Card Collector - I've popped my fair share of cards from graded holders, but Clemente will be staying in his plastic prison.

Brian - Agree. Without the OC, I wouldn't have been able to afford it.
