Today's post centers around a collection of baseball cards I inherited from one of my readers. A few weeks ago I was contacted by a guy who also collects Japanese MLBers but is currently downsizing his collection to focus on more high-end cards. He wanted to send the rest to someone who would enjoy them as much as he did.
A few days later, I received a medium sized flat rate shipping box in the mail filled with a bunch of goodies. And simply put... it left me speechless. See for yourself:
Unreal, right? I had never seen a bunch of these cards before and there were over eight guys I had never even heard of.
I lost track of how many new cards were inserted into my Japanese MLB binders, but there were easily 50 to 75 new additions including these awesome rookie cards:
Plus a stack of memorabilia cards and autographs:
There was even a printing plate included:

Last, but certainly not least was this really cool set of Kenny Powers trading cards:
Never heard of Mr. Powers? He was the main character on HBO's Eastbound and Down. I had never seen the show before owning this set, but it inspired me to watch the first season this weekend.
There were hundreds of more cards in the package... but I spend over an hour scanning these cards alone and unfortunately it'd take weeks to show everything off. That's how loaded this collection was.

Honestly have no clue... however, I'll probably write a future post on them and when I do, I'll do my homework and try to find out.

Lol... it's the thought that counts. I would have been grateful had he sent me one card, but you're right it was a pretty fantastic package.

That really is generous of him, a great example of what makes the sports card blogging community unique.
ReplyDeleteI love the Kenny Powers cards, a couple of years ago I had started to put together a custom Kenny powers set but it ended up on the back burner. Maybe it is time to re-visit the project.
Kenny is a little over the top, but the show is growing on me. Watched another episode last night. Looking forward to seeing that project if you decide to re-visit it.

Yeah... I love that card. He had a stack of five or six Ovations in the package... including Dice and a few other guys. Great looking design.

Out of all of those cards... there were only two Nomos (the rookie and a Nomo Studio Stained Glass). However... I probably have a couple of extras in my doubles box that I can add to your package.

ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the cards Fuji. The Kenny Powers cards were released by HBO when the show first aired. They came in 5 card packs representing each year he played in the majors. If you look at the pics and the stats on the back you can see how he "regressed" each year. I have another set so I sent you the extras. That show is hilarious.
