Case of the Mysterious Missing Parcel

Two weeks ago, I thought I hit the lottery when I won this auction...

When the auction closed, I was so excited about this purchase.  The price was right.  The eBay Bucks I had saved up were expiring that day, so it felt like I was hitting one out of the park during the bottom of the ninth.  And best of all... I was finally going to cross the 1999 UD Century Legends Epic Signatures Ken Griffey Jr. off of my wantlist.

I've been in love with this set for years and although I have accepted the fact that I'll never actually build the set due to some very expensive cards... this Griffey was going to be one of the highlights of my autograph collection and the final piece to this partial set I was building.

The only thing I had to do was sit back and wait.  So I waited.  And waited.  And waited some more.  Then finally after thirteen days, I contacted the seller to let him know I hadn't received the card.  He replied with a tracking number, which showed this:

What the heck?  So the package has been delivered... but unfortunately it was delivered to someone else.  I'm currently stuck standing at the crossroads not quite sure of what to do.  Do I suck it up and take the hit?  Do I open a claim and attempt to get my money back?  I sure wish Encyclopedia Brown lived in my neck of the woods.

Ironically this is the second time this year that I've purchased this card and I still have yet to hold it in my hands.  The first time took place back in March.  I picked it up with a BIN from Burbank Sportscards' eBay store, but they later contacted me and told me that it had been sold in their store and they no longer had the card in their inventory.

I'm starting to think that this card and I aren't meant to be together... which totally sucks, because you know how it goes.  The more you can't have something... the more you want it.

Hopefully things are going better for you guys and your collections.  Happy Monday and sayonara!

  1. Wow...great card, and I hope they resolve the problem quickly. What's the point in having a tracking number if they can't track down where they delivered it ? You'd think that for that price, the seller would have it delivered against signature.
    Fingers crossed !
(the only card I'm missing so far is one i got for a couple of dollars, and the seller is all apologetic and wants to replace it and give me one more on top of that, for free...)

    1. I'm not 100% sure... but I think this would be my first eBay casualty. The seller has been very helpful and even opened a postal investigation on his end. I haven't had the time to go down to the post office, but I plan to do the same on Saturday.

I'm glad your experienced ended up being a positive one. Overall 99.9% of my eBay experiences have been awesome.

  2. Guess you'll just have to buy it again. As they say, third time's the charm!

  3. If you sent your address, and the post office can confirm that is NOT the address is was dropped off, then get your refund.

    1. I was hoping the same thing, but the vender used my PayPal address. I have to admit the guy has totally been helpful and cooperative during the whole situation. He even opened a postal investigation on his end.

  4. Yikes, that is an ebay nightmare. It's even worse to have it happen on such a beautiful (and pricey) card.

    1. Yeah. Why couldn't it have happened to one of my $3 purchases :(

  6. Try the post office first to see if they can track it, if not open a claim with eBay.

I have been in a similar situation, I have two postal carriers and one is about the laziest person I have seen. She doesn't get signatures on certified letters, she just tosses the "Sorry we missed you" notice in the mailbox with the rest of the mail and three times in the last month alone she has delivered an eBay purchase to a neighbor.

I hope things work out because that is a beautiful card, I would love to add one to my collection some day.

    1. Wow. Between your stories and a couple of YouTube stories there have been a bunch of issues with the post office recently. I'd be so upset if my mailman delivered my packages to a neighbor. Everyone makes mistakes, but three times in one month is inexcusable. I hope you get that squared away.

  7. That is terrible. Hopefully the post office will be able to clear that up and get you the card, or the money back.

    1. Yeah... it's been crazy at work, so the first time I can get to the post office is this Saturday. Hopefully it's sitting in a box in the back... if not I hope they'll do an investigation that will either help me out with PayPal and the whole eBay experience.

Unfortunately... the seller has been totally cooperative and even if I could get a refund... I'd sort of feel bad that he'd lose out on the sale. I wish we could somehow get the post office to pay for the damages and not me or the seller.

  8. Like Corky I'd go to the PO and then go ahead and open a claim. My feeling has been (and I had a couple of similar situations arise) 'I paid for it, I didn't get it, it wasn't something I screwed up = I shouldn't be out the card or the $'

    1. Yeah. Headed there this Saturday. But like I responded to Matt... the seller has been very helpful and has even opened a postal investigation on his end, where they verified the address shipped. I'd feel terrible if he lost out on the money too. Honestly, I think the postal service should have to refund my money... instead of the seller who has provide two pieces of evidence that the package was shipped.

    1. I hope so... I totally believe in karma. In fact, I'm starting to think if I've done anything bad to deserve this ;)

  11. Since I saw everything turned out okay, I guess I can safely mark out for the Encyclopedia Brown reference!
