Well someone recently listed the 1981 Granny Goose #13 Dave Revering on eBay and I ended up the high bidder at $11.49.
Now you're probably scratching your head wondering why I'd pay so much for a Dave Revering. Personally... I don't blame you. Revering had a few solid seasons, but was never considered a super star. In fact, my guess is most younger collectors (twenty years or younger) have never heard of him.
But the card pictured above actually has an interesting history and is quite rare. Back in 1981, the Oakland A's traded Revering to the New York Yankees and supposedly most of the Dave Revering cards were destroyed by the company that printed these cards for Granny Goose.
Obviously a few slipped into collector's hands. And now I'm the proud owner of one, which means that my 1981 Granny Goose set is finally complete:

Nice. I recently added a Puig to my collection too. It's not a Topps card though... it's his S.I. For Kids card.

ReplyDeleteVery nice Fuji. I've picked up some great cards since joining the world of blogging, but nothing I would consider a whale. The closest I've come to picking up something like that was when I was in the Navy. I saw a Nolan Ryan rookie card and it was $200. I was making squat for money and just couldn't do it. I've regretted passing on it ever since.
ReplyDeleteThe Ryan rookie card has (and probably always will be) on my wantlist. It's such an iconic card that blew up in value right before my very eyes. The only way this one gets crossed off is if I can find it dirt, dirt cheap.

DeleteI just checked my #1 most wanted Wallach card off my list last week. It'd been sitting there for over 20 years, and out of nowhere I found a guy with 3 of them (all of which I gladly took off his hands).

DeleteWanting everything, and needing so much, I have an oceanful of white whales. I guess the closest thing is probably the 1972 Topps Steve Garvey, because it's the card I've wanted from the earliest days of my childhood that I've still yet to land.

DeleteI'll probably never catch the Jordan... although I want one. I'm too afraid it'd be counterfeit and I'm not going to drop big bills on a graded copy.
Funny story...Many many years ago my grandma pulled a card out that she had been saving for me. She has gotten it out of a "package of chips or cookies". It is this card. It's not in great condition, but interesting that she happen to get one of the rarest cards out there.
