Last weekend, I purchased twenty-six packs of 1992 Upper Deck Minor League and twenty-five packs of 1994 Upper Deck Minor League at the flea market for $15.
I picked them up, because I hadn't busted anything in a few weeks and these seemed like a cheap fix.
I ended up pulling three Derek Jeters rookies out of the 1992 product, but the highlight of the pack breaks were definitely these two cards...
1992 Upper Deck Minors #199 Pork Chop Pough
1994 Upper Deck Minors #29 Motor-Boat Jones
If you are looking to unload some of those 1994's I think you have some that I can use for my set that has been going on for awhile now. Could really use those Player of the Year cards.
ReplyDeleteLMK which ones you need... maybe we can help each other out.
DeleteMotor Boat I've heard of, but Pork Chop is new to me. I love it with Pough too...not only does is put a nice ring to the name, but it also makes his initials PCP which is just wacky.
ReplyDeletethose are cruel jokes by cruel parents, or extremely odd nicknames...the good thing is that they are/were athletes. imagine if they were accountants or teachers, i wouldn't be too happy if i got audited by a guy named Motor Boat.
ReplyDeleteLOL... I'd love to see one of my students try to call me Pork Chop.
DeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pickup! I used to buy a bunch of UD Minors, but never made much of an attempt at the sets.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't get a card of Wonderful Terrific Monds, but he was in the 1995 Upper Deck Minors set.
Someone should compile a list of all the cool nicknames found in those 90's UD Minors sets.
DeleteOnly Pork Chop I've ever heard of is from Ice Road Truckers on the History channel, cause "You can't STOP the CHOP!"
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that we don't really see nicknames like that anymore.
ReplyDeleteI've only known one person called "Pork Chop", he was a jerk.
Motor-Boat Jones?
ReplyDeleteFantastic.
Wow awesome break.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to trade for one of those Jeters.
Sorry ZZ. One is for my PC. Another is for my set. And the final one was claimed by my buddy. The good news is they're readily available on eBay for under $10 (shipped). Most sell in the $5 to $7 range... and that includes shipping.
DeleteLet me k.ow if any dodger prospects are for trade!
ReplyDeleteEmail me your mailing address.
DeleteDon't forget about Oil Can....that man will live in Boston lore forever.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a 1970's crime fighting or moonshining duo..Pork Chop Pough and Motor-Boat Jones!
