I've Been Harang-ed!
A few days ago I received a package from The Angels, In Order that contained eight copies of Aaron Harang's 2002 A's Plumbers Union card.
The card was part of a stadium giveaway that encouraged fans to interact to complete their 28 card set.
Each fan was given 20 different cards and 8 additional cards of the one player. The fan was suppose to find seven other fans who could use one of your cards, while giving you a card that you needed.
This particular pack had cards #1 through #20, plus 8 copies of card #26.
They're very similar to the ones Mother's Cookies used to produce for the A's each season. Speaking of Mother's Cookies, he also included this 1991 copy of Jose Canseco:
And this sealed copy of a 1991 Mother's Cookies Will Clark:
Thanks buddy! I'll try to ship out some Angels card to you this weekend.
Happy Friday and sayonara!
I applaud the effort to encourage trading.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Very unique... and probably a lot of fun (if you were at the game).
DeleteUgh.
ReplyDeleteHarang.
Please take more of him as in the real-life Aaron Harang.
I don't think the A's can use him... they're starting rotation is pretty locked & loaded. On the other hand, my Padres would love to take him back... if he cut his salary in half.
DeleteHi. I left a comment a couple days ago on your contest post and I don't think you saw it. Here is the plug on my blog for your contest: http://pencenixpierre2012.blogspot.com/2013/03/remember-to-check-out-fujis-contest.html
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Josh
Yeah... I missed it. Thanks for the plug.
DeleteWow, an interactive Bipping!!
ReplyDeleteThat plumbers union sure were ahead of their time.
DeleteAre you planning to track down the last 7 cards you need and finish the set?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if any other teams/ballparks have done any similar promotions.
Probably not... since I have so many other projects I'm currently working on. A lot of teams give out trading cards, but I'm not sure if any of them used this concept to encourage fan interaction.
DeleteThat Will Clark is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI remember getting a (pretty good) repack as a kid and there were some Mother's Cookies cards in there. Hate that the box they were in disappeared when I wasn't much into the hobby.
Mother's Cookies cards will always have a special place in my collection. I remember my brother taking me to Giants and A's games, so we could get these SGA's.
DeleteI agree, an interesting attempt to encourage trading and fan interaction. Don't know of any team currently doing this, otherwise one of the bloggers out there would have said something.
ReplyDeleteMaybe one of the marketing execs for a MLB team will read our comments and do something about it ;-)
