Set Showcase #21: 1987 Mother's Cookies Oakland A's

I'm not sure if I have any female readers, who have children... but just in case, Happy Mother's Day!

I'm a huge fan of this holiday, because it celebrates moms around the country. And I'm one of those who think my mama is the best on the planet. It's pretty simple... she's always been there for me. I will never be able to repay her for all of the things she's done for me over the years.

Mama Fuji... I love you!

Okay... now that we've gotten that out of the way. Let's get down to business.

I've been a huge fan of Mother's Cookies baseball cards since I was a teenager in the mid 80's. Last year, I picked up the the 1987 Oakland A's set off of eBay for $1.54 (+ $2.99 shipping). It's my favorite Mother's Cookies set, because unlike the other sets... it features every Oakland A's all-star from 1968 to 1987.

Set: 28 Cards

1 Bert Campaneris, 2 Rick Monday, 3 John Odom, 4 Sal Bando
5 Reggie Jackson, 6 Jim Hunter, 7 Vida Blue, 8 Dave Duncan

9 Joe Rudi, 10 Rollie Fingers, 11 Ken Holtzman, 12 Dick Williams
13 Alvin Dark, 14 Gene Tenace, 15 Claudell Washington, 16 Phil Garner

17 Wayne Gross, 18 Matt Keough, 19 Jeff Newman, 20 Rickey Henderson
21 Tony Armas, 22 Mike Norris, 23, Billy Martin, 24 Bill Caudill

25 Jay Howell, 26 Jose Canseco, 27 Jose & Reggie, 28 Checklist

Hall of Famers: 15% (4 Players)

Over the years, the Oakland A's have had a ton of talent pass through their system. But only five players have been enshrined at Cooperstown and represented the A's in the Mid-Summer Classic: Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, Rickey Henderson, and Dennis Eckersley. Eck wasn't part of this set, because he represented the A's in 1988, 1990, 1991, and 1992.

Beckett Value: $20

The two most expensive cards in the set are listed at $4/card: #5 Reggie Jackson & #20 Rickey Henderson. Jose Canseco's card #26 is the second most valuable at $3.

eBay Value: $4

The same guy who sold me my set has recently sold three more sets for 99¢ (+ $2.99 shipping) and has another one currently for sale. If you're interested, click here.

Okay, it's time to call Mama Fuji and wish her a Happy Mother's Day! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and sayonara!

  1. I love cookies and I love my mom, and I absolutely adore Mother's Cookies sets. Alas, I only own one small 4-card set of Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr., so I couldn't do a post with just them, but this is an awesome collection. I might turn around and buy this set just to have that Reggie card. Cool post, Fuji.

  2. Lol... love cookies & my mom too. I have a couple of singles from the Griffey Jr. & Sr. set. One of these days I'll finish it off. I highly recommend this set... it's too loaded, cheap, and cool to pass up.
