Road Trip Recap

Back in December, my best friend surprised me with a trip down to Pismo.  Well we went back down again, only this time it was more of a planned vacation.

However before I dive into our trip, here's your obligatory baseball card:

Rusty is arguably known best for having one of the greatest names in hobby history.  But today he's featured in this post, because he grew up in a Central Coast town called Paso Robles, which happened to be our first stop on our road trip.

After taking a potty break, walking Tashi, and grabbing a refreshing acai bowl at The Neighborhood, we continued south on 101 to Pismo.

We stayed at the SeaCrest Oceanfront Hotel which offers some amazing coastal views of the Pacific Ocean.

The next day we woke up and headed about an hour southeast down to a little town in the Santa Ynez Valley called Solvang, which is known as the Danish Capital of America.

We stopped off at Ostrichland USA to see and feed the ostriches.  I didn't realize how tall and cute they are in person.

Afterwards we headed into town to eat aebleskivers:

The trip was filled with delicious food, gorgeous scenery, great company, and perfect weatherTemperatures ranged from the low 70's during the day to high 50's in the early evening.

Here's the view from our patio:

That's me lounging with my computer catching up and commenting on all of your blog posts.  Life truly doesn't get much better than this.  Unfortunately that was only about an hour before we packed up and headed back home.

Thank you Jen for inviting me along with you, your mom, and Tashi!

My Spring Break has been non-stop since Saturday.  One of the first things I did was walk around the De Anza Flea Market, where I found a set of cards that I have wanted for decades.  I'm hoping to write a recap of my finds either today or tomorrow, but we'll have to see.

I have a pair of lunch dates, a few chores that need to be taken care of, and taxes that need to be filed.  Plus I'm suppose to meet my buddy's son-in-law to sell my car this evening, but I have to get it smogged before.  Today and tomorrow are going to be a little crazy.

Until I write again...

Happy Thursday and sayonara!

  1. Good times. My family often did a similar trip in the 70s except coming up from So Cal. Solvang was always a highlight, stopping to get pastries.

  5. Pismo Beach is fantastic. My sister and her family lived in Arroyo Grande for years and it was always great to go out and visit with them. The temps were always in the mid 70s year round. Glad you enjoyed your trip Fuji!

  7. Looks fun and exotic, never heard of any of the food names, but I'm sure it was all good. (Have seen ostriches up close though).

Didn't know Kuntz had a certified auto. Interesting.

  15. Looks like a great time and great views. How tall did you think an ostrich was before you saw them?? I have seen them in person too years ago and they were impressive. Hope you share some pics of your latest flea market finds and look forward to your next blog post.

dennis - i have all of the flea market items photographed or scanned. just need to finish writing up the post. should have it published on tuesday or wednesday.

cardboredom - i'm sure the ostrich wasn't expecting it either

john sharp - this break was so busy, i wish i had a few more days away from school. but it's back into the classroom tomorrow

reds card collector - arroyo grande (all of the towns down there) are so cool. i'm sure that's one of the areas i'll look into when i retire. just not sure i'll be able to afford it.

brett alan - had to look up the bugs bunny clip. might have saw that as a kid, but if i did... i don't remember. if you ever get the opportunity, i'd recommend checking pismo out. actually there are a bunch of cool place to stay in that area

night owl - not sure about exotic, but the views were really nice. i forgot about owning this auto. i just happened to see which kuntz cards i had scanned already and this one popped up.

bo - the mornings and evenings were very peaceful. but during the day we were running around all of the place. it was pretty awesome.

johnnys trading spot - yeah... it's always nice to get away with good company. the trip itself wasn't completely stress free... but honestly anytime i'm traveling there's a tiny bit of anxiety that i carry along with me :D

nick vossbrink - mine too. hoping to go back for a few days this summer, but we'll see.

laurens - we were thinking about going to chumash casino in st. ynez valley. we didn't end up going, but maybe next time.

crocodile - i don't think you'll be disappointed if you do. lots of delicious food, scenic views, and nice weather

rr - i figured they would be four, maybe five feet tall. i feel like some of these were seven feet plus. i should have the flea market finds post publish on tuesday or wednesday
