30 Day Baseball Card Challenge

I finally gave in...

Over the summer, it seemed like every other cardboard blogger documented their Listia success stories on their blogs... except of course... me.

I actually opened my account over eight months ago, but didn't do anything with it until I stumbled across SpastikMooss' recent Listia purchase:  a 2000 Quantum Leaf rookie card of Tom Brady.

His post
inspired me to head over to the site to see what I was missing.  One thing lead to another and I began doing whatever I could to earn credits.  Pretty soon I had tripled my savings and eventually won my first auction:

It's a 1991 Maxx Winston Cup 20th Anniversary foil set which consists of 21 cards and features Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Dale Earnhardt, and several other NASCAR drivers.

This set is a perfect example of "jumping the gun".  I was so excited to win an auction, I ended up winning an auction involving a sport I don't really follow.  Oh well... I assure you I have no "buyer's remorse".  It's a good looking set that will be thrown into a box and forgotten within a week or so.

SpastikMooss ended up giving me a few Listia tips and one of them was to create my first auction, because they'll reward you with 500 credits regardless if your auctions sells.  So, I decided to post this 1980 Dodgers TCMA card of Don Drysdale:

As you can see, I set the opening bid at the ridiculous price of 1,959 credits.  Why?  Well... essentially, I'm not interested in getting rid of this card, but I wanted the free 500 credits.

Thanks Spastik!  Or do you prefer Mr. Mooss?  You've officially got me hooked on Listia.

Anyone else out there on Listia?  What are your thoughts?

Happy Sunday and sayonara!

I'm on Listia. I'm just getting started "selling" but I have won several nice Cal Ripken cards.

Beautiful looking set! I've done that a few times for sure, the whole buying something to win an auction and then afterwards kind of scratching my head as to why I bought that. But generally I'm happy with the purchase anyways!

Glad I could get you hooked. And I like the sound of Mr. Mooss - very nice idea haha. And enjoy those extra 500 credits!

I'm on, and I've gotten plenty of nice cards. I've noticed the Drysdale, of course.

I have been outbid on every item Ive tried to pick up lol. I think Listia's potential is enormous especially for those associated with the hobby.

I've gotten some pretty good Angels cards, sold a bunch of stuff too. Seems like its costing more and more to win stuff though as more people are getting into it.

Agreed. For a while I was tossing in bids for anything I was remotely interested in, but then it felt like I was just bidding everything up. I've noticed there are 5-10 card collecting guys with big budgets who bid on basically everything - makes it a bit tricky at times. Luckily I have enough credits to win stuff I really want, but not everyone is in that situation!

I think there is a lot of potential there. Overall its been great. I've had a few frustrating encounters, but "free" brings some jackasses into the equation, so its probably part of the deal.

I registered and have not looked at it since. I figure I waste enough time on the computer as it is. I may poke around there is I get a chance.

I've checked out lista but haven't registered. Partly because with ebay and sportlots and the occasional trade on one of the forums I belong to I often don't think of other places to look for cards.

I rarely use ecrater anymore and sometimes look at checkoutmycards, but it's been a while since I've bought from there.

Thanks... not sure if it was worth the credits, but it's another notch on the belt. Couldn't have done it without your help... Mr. Mooss.

Do you want it? If it doesn't sell this go around (just figured out how to take it off auto-renew), it's yours.

I plan on using it to get rid of some team insert/parallel lots. Figure it's a good way to help some team collectors out there, while hopefully turning around and building onto my collection. Best of luck on your future bids!

Anything specific? The one thing that concerns me is dealing with people who claim they never received their cards.

Since I'm not planning on posting anything of high value, I have no intentions of shipping with delivery confirmation. Hopefully, people who win my auctions will be honest.

Lol... sort of what I thought. Until I saw Mr. Mooss's post ;-)

Honestly... it's probably a fad for me. I'm sure 6 months from now, I'll be over the Listia trend. Heck, who knows... in 6 months, I might be over the blogging trend.
